03 tacoma running bad lost as to next step

    How far off can the timing marks be I looked and they are not even the left is TDC and right is almost quarter off

    I was playing off road going fishing and they had some mud so I went threw it all was fine for about 15 min then it went into limp mood for lack of a better word

    Hi I've watched this forum for a long time...it was time to join. I think I might be able to help you. As many have said it seems to be a timing problem. My 3.4 in my 03 was doing the same thing, but as I was planning a 1jz conversion I didn't really care. I tore the engine down instead of removing it intact. What I found was that the pin holding the right bank timing gear was bent almost in an "s" shape and the slot in the gear for the pin was worn so badly that the timing gear was moving separate of the cam, probably 3 to 4 degrees if not more. From the pictures you posted, I bet you have the same issue. Hope this helps Good luck.
