03 tacoma speedometer/odometer problems.

    Hey everyone my name is Lee. I'm new to the forum and I'm having issues with my speedometer and odometer not working on my 03 tacoma 4x4 v6 manual trans. So far i removed speed sensor from transfer case inspected plug gear on sensor and wiring as well as i could. Everything seemed to look fine. Also truck check engine light came one when speedometer went out have not got code pulled. Can anyone give me further diagnostic instructions to figure out if i have a sensor issue or other problems. I do not like to just throw parts at something unless i know for a fact what the problem is. Thanks in advance for the help.
