I am contemplating selling my beloved 2003 Tacoma to get into a used 2007 4Runner V8 Limited.

The 4Runner certainly does have a lot more bells and whistles than my little truck and I would consider it my last vehicle I would buy since retirement. I am going to look at one today that my son is detailing. Asking 9K, one owner. Frame looked clean with the pictures he sent but I will do a much closer inspection today. Must have service records too as I am a fanatic about routine maintenance.
I am not sure what I should ask for my truck as a start to this process as I cannot have both. My truck is a 2003 2.7 5 speed ext cab with 295K miles and I am the original owner. Bone stock. Fluid filmed annually. Complete records of all service since day one. Additionally, I do think the 4Runner with 200K even though newer and less mileage would be more costly to maintain than what I have now. I need to consider all now that I am on a fixed income since retiring.

What are your thoughts in general? Am I nuts?

Only you can decide, of course. But if it were me, and I liked the Tacoma, I would keep it. You know the history and all that from the start. Sometimes, we just want something different though. I'm partial to the 1st Gen.'s Tacoma's though, I think they are the perfect compact truck. Good luck with your decision.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Stick with what you’ve got imo. Buy a new battery and shampoo the inside.

Your truck will rust apart before it quits running, and it sounds like you're ahead of the rust.

If you're concerned about cost of repair for an unknown vehicle with 200k and costly electronics that provide 'convenience', you're probably on to something with that...

There will be a long line of folks happy to buy a well-maintained 1st gen. There might be a reason for that too.

I'd keep the truck unless I needed the extra seating.

The 4Runner is definitely a want more than a need. Wife likes them too so that is two thirds of the decision! I am looking for the needle in the haystack and willing to pay for it, looking at Bring A Trailer specifically for a V8 loaded Limited. If nothing found there I am certainly happy to keep my truck.

I don’t need the extra seating for certain.
