03 tacoma with 01 fuel tank? surprise

Evap system on 95-00 is mounted under the hood while on 01-04 it is fuel tank mounted. So for this reason, you cannot swap components and the tank with 95-00 and vice-versa. Only thing you can swap out is the fuel pump. BUT for some reason 2001 tank an filler neck are different than 02-04 and will not fit (without modifications at least, as it seems like previous owner got it to work...)

I believe EVAP is the same for all 01-04, but on 01, it's just how and where things are connected that differs?


Oh and between 2wd(15gal) and 4wd(18gal), the tanks are interchangeable.You will just need to lenghten or shorten the fuel tank strap depending what you swap to. Then fuel filler neck, fuel pump can be swapped out too (except for the pump and sending unit bracket).

 

So an 01 should fit on an 03.
