Recently purchased a 2004 Tacoma extra cab 4x4 v6 manual for my son’s 1st truck. 161k miles. Engine runs strong and he drove it for a couple weeks no problems.

He recently ran the truck in a ditch. Estimating 20 MPH. Slight dent in the front bumper. Air bags didn’t even go off.

check engine light came on after the wreck. Code P0456 EVAP emission control system leak detected (very small leak). Figured it might be gas cap related so I cleared the code. 200-300 miles later and code has not returned.

However, we are no longer able to pump gas into the truck. Takes 15 minutes or so with the slightest flow. Anything faster fills up the filler tube and nozzle shuts off. I have checked for kinked vent lines and no debris in the filler tube. I’m not sure if this is related to the fender bender or coincidence. Any ideas or pointer would be greatly appreciated!

Bet you got a problem somewhere between the tank vent line and the charcoal cannister...
could be that line......the charcoal cannister itself......or one of the valves controlling it.....

I have an old 98 and mine is completely different from yours.......

Maybe someone here with 2003/2004 experience will step in........

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
I wonder is the rollover safety in the junction of the filler tube and the tank stuck in the closed position this would cause your problem not allowing the tank and the filler tube to vent. Filling the filler tube with fuel at any flow but a slight trickle.

This may have been caused just by the surge from going in the ditch.

Having checked for any damage or dirt in the filler tube vent allowing you to rule that out.
