Youve probably already made your decision. Ford Rangers from what I saw working at a Ford dealership seldom made it over 200000 miles. I did see a 4 cylinder one have 240000 on it. I remember that because it was sort of a game for me to see how many miles cars were really getting out of curiosity. With Fords it seemed if you got a good one great, but it was pretty even with people who didn't. The newer Eco boost engines were a red flag for me. They'll run with the best of them if you can get them past the 20000-mile mark. So many were grenading engines about that time. The highest miles vehicle I saw was a Ford Escape with 369000 miles that was drien bt a courier.

It could be lifter noise since its been sitting.

It could also be loud injectors. You would have to hear it to better determine the issue.

How about transplanting a little 289 into that Ranger?

Just buy it and fix it. If you don't like it it, sell it. Someone else will buy it.

    That's not a bad idea

I just did a little read and looks like the carbureted 302 might be the way to go.

Ticking could be injectors I had an old one with a bad injector. Sitting scares me as lots of things go bad when they don't get used like brakes bushings gas etc. Take a video of it running. Check frame for rust. Could be a valve but anything bad engine related at 40k is a bad sign. When owners park or sell unfixed it generally means they couldnt find the problem or it was cheaper to buy something else. Id offer like 3750. Engines are about 1500 or more so take the estimated value and subtract 2k and you got your offer. Unless you need a truck I'd look for something more like a camry for running around.

Might get better results from one of the 10 different Ford Ranger forums on the web.

Apparently, it's just too difficult to read the first fking post and move along, since I'm not asking you anything if you haven't had a ranger.

    Just tooooo fking hard.

Must comment for no reason and clog up a thread

Must state opinion that isn't being asked for

    Just tooo fking hard

Go with the nonsense over to Reddit since the other teenagers are all of there now ruining it.

I wouldn’t buy that pos. It’s been sitting with only 40k miles and has a lifter problem or a engine knock. That’s prolly why it’s been sitting. F that.
