I’ve never heard of a Tacoma with those problems at that mileage.

Somehow missed this…saw it scrolling back through the comments. It was a v6 but don’t remember much else.

I owned a 1998 4x4 Ranger and put over 400,000kms on it before I sold it. Engine and tranny held out surprisingly but front ends are fragile imo. The ticking over time from the engine is common in a Ranger-valves or whatever. I really liked it and think they make for a decent run around truck. Especially the 2wd. See them as parts couriers and delivery trucks all over.

As mentioned, the asking price is high for what that truck is. Come in much lower with your asking price. I offered 4grand under asking price on mine and the owner accepted it two weeks later

I skipped pages 2 - 6, but thought I would offer my experience.

I owned a 1993 Ranger, 4wd, 4.0L, automatic trans. Modified Rancho suspension, 8.8 from an Explorer (31 spline). I regeared to 4.10, 32" tires. Upgraded to Explorer seats.

I drove that truck for 325,000 miles - original engine and transmission. Back and forth across the country a dozen times. 4 wheeled in a dozen states. Camped in the bed.

At 325K miles, I pulled the running 4.0 and leaking transmission out, and swapped in a nicely built 5.0L - factory fuel injection and all.

Great truck - loved the TTB.

Concurrently, I had a 2006 Ranger FX4 Level II for 9 years, 100,000 miles, 1 trip across the country. Never had any problems with it. Rear disk brake swap as well.

To all the haters out there, what the f*** do you do to your trucks??????

To the OP, it's probably worth checking out.

Sorry didn't read anything beyond this page.

I had a 1999 Ranger Ex cab 4x4 4.0 V6 from about 60K to 125K. Over all I liked the truck, had Bilstiens and Add a leaf to help carry a work load. Extra cab was a must and introduced me to my current Tacoma AC. Auto trans went at about 90K for $4K. Ouch, that turned me off. The 4.0 V6 was a pain to keep on top of and it had a head gasket leak when sold at 125K.

When I was searching for a Tacoma I said to myself, If I had a this Ranger and a Tacoma sitting in the driveway both with 125K miles and they both needed a bit of work to keep on the road what would I do? Sell the Ranger and I did.

The 3.0 V6 Ranger is the more reliable motor to me.

Yep, inline 6 with the 5 speed. 1989. 2wd. I think the tranny is a zf, the slave cylinder is inside the bellhousing, and it won't hold pressure. It's gonna be fun swapping these hydraulics out. Facepalm.

Really, really simple vehicle! I got it running on the old EFI, but i would like to carburate the ol' workhorse and get rid of all the old wiring, sensors, emissions, etc.

Old farm truck from Mississippi. Farmer passed on a decade ago, so she sat in their barn until a guy that new the family picked it up as a covid project... He really didn't know what he was doing, so he gave up and sold it to me.

Phosphoric acid really does wonders on old steel. I just put the second coat of corroseal. Looks great, I'll take a pic after it's done reacting.

    Looks really good.
A true work truck with a full size bed .
Plus it’s not all rusted out!
I might have to get in touch and have you find a non rusted out work truck like that for me….

I'm down near New Orleans. Not a great place to look for vehicles. Most trucks here will get $6k in rims and speakers installed, but the owner won't spend any money on maintenance... Many trucks die here, from neglect. This f250 was a lucky find.
