I started having an issue with my AC either blowing warmer air or what seems as if the compressor is off while driving. When the AC compressor seems off it blows stale humid air (texas) and turning off the AC using the button or the fan then back on seems to fix the issue. As for the times when it blows warmer air it usually is at low speeds, this gets corrected when i get going. I have used parts store refrigerant to validate the freon in the system.
Appreciate any info, i have read its the low pressure switch but cant find any info on how to change it, i am a novice.

basics first... is the evaporator draining? On the passenger side lower firewall there should be a rubber tube that is supposed to drip water from the evaporator. If you park under trees and leaves get into the evaporator case this drain could be blocked and the water not draining and freezeing the evaporator core. You can access this rubber tube from inside the passenger compartment just above where the passengers feet go. If you are in doubt about this blockage dont pull the rubber hose off unless you have a big towel under it... you dont want all that water and decomposing stuff to get under your carpet.

Next look at the condensor... the radiator in front of the engine radiator. Are the fins covered in mud/bugs or anything that would restrict air flow? Depending on the year the receiver/dryer is to the left or right of the condensor... it is an aluminum tube and it has a view port on the top so that you can see the quantity and size of the air bubbles in the system. If when the compressor is running and the sight glass is milky you dont have enough freon in the system. When the compressor cycles you should see maybe a second of larger bubbles then they get smaller and dissappear. A few ounces too much or too little freon will effect the cooling ability of the system.

I believe that starting 2002-3 Tacomas started to use electro-mechanical servos to control the mix vanes and the recirculation vane for heating cooling and there could be a problem there. Hopefully it is something simple.

Glamisman, you are correct, and the servos are ridiculously expensive
