Hello, new member here with an issue. I did look around a little bit but didn't see an answer for my problem.

I have a frequently driven 2004 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 v6 with 219,000 miles which won't move in drive or reverse. The truck starts fine, and the lever switches to drive through to reverse, but won't go anywhere. It also makes a grinding noise if put into park when the car is running. This noise doesn't occur if the truck is turned off, switched to park, then turned back on.

The transfer case is moved to 4 hi and 4x4 is switched off.
All fuses have been checked. The transmission fluid level is correct(checked after the engine heated up) and does not smell burnt. Any suggestions?

Sounds like a transfer case stuck in neutral

    This.

I've accidentally put my T-case in N when i thought it was in hi.

Put the truck in neutral, let it slowly roll and see if you can get it into hi, or put the T-case in low, move the truck, try to put the T-case in hi.

If it's making a noise going in to park I would think the transfer is probably not engaged properly. That would be like shifting to park in a 2 wheel drive while truck is still moving.

Wow that was aalot of replies, thanks guys! I'll definitely be visiting this site more often. As all of you said, the transfer case was in neutral, i got in the truck messed with the 4x4 shifter again and sure enough it was in neutral. I switched it to 4 hi and now I'm good to go!

Thanks guys, I'm glad it was a super easy fix
