Recently had my rear shock rust off the frame. Curious on everyone’s thoughts if it will beable to be brought back to life. Rest of frame seems solid to me. Body is in good shape and runs great. It is a 4 cyl with 168k miles so hate to see it go. Here are some pics, any input is much appreciated. 396660F8-0EAA-4EDF-903F-0C1C00562881.jpg 19702F89-4346-4EE4-BD68-482B96E94F3B.jpg B220E07F-4CFD-445A-9D95-192FB2A9FB21.jpg 47BBCCF8-2B35-4DE5-A677-4CC675AECC13.jpg C1815429-5EF0-4492-AE32-BC097A55AB63.jpg

What he said, honestly those are your only options, unless you cut your losses and part out the rest. Saf t cap might work if it’s really the only bad spot and there’s enough to weld to, which tbh doesn’t look like the case from here. The next challenge is finding a frame and after finding it, getting it to you. Either way, it will be cost and labor intensive but can be done if you have the time, money and find the materials.

You should hammer test the rest. Visual inspection ain’t enough. And I’ll bet you find a lot more rusted when you start taking it apart of you do, bolts especially. But it can be done, just not easy or cheap.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
Knowing just where the Truck has lived can be a major factor.

A real Good up close inspection is in order. What other work is going to also need done??

If you can do the fabrication and welding yourself or Have experienced friends it can be brought back to life.

Another winter it might be to far gone.

If your paying labor and materials it is going to get very expensive.

Just how much can you afford to spend .

I live in Iowa so it doesn’t have an easy life. I have a buddy that can weld but wanted some insight as to what I can expect. It seemed to happen very fast but obviously it did not happen overnight. I do not drive it too much during the winter so was not keeping an eye on it as I should have been.

I know this probably varies tremendously but what could I expect to get back from parting out?

Unless you have a strong local market for Tacoma parts plus the time and place to strip the truck.

Check out in your regional Forum for members close.

Shipping the heavier items gets expensive enough it tends to be a deal breaker.

My few attempts at parting out the only things anyone wanted were small things like door handles , wiper arms etc . Most went more or less to help other Toyota owners.

If you decide not to fix sell it as is .

    Best of Luck.
