    235,000 kilometers and no issues.

Honestly with a truck this old it doesn’t owe me anything. I’ll just pay to get it fixed and move on. Yes, it’s an issue... but even with the poll above, currently only 15% of 05-06 owners have had an issue so far.

If you want to fix it before it breaks go ahead. Spend the money and get it done right. If anything, the resale value of the truck would likely go up if you have a record of HG replacement from a reputable shop.

Or wait until it fails and starts to drink coolant and then fix it. Just dont overheat it

Unless the head gasket blows in the middle of nowhere. Add possible damage from overheating and tow bill. Wondering if your head gaskets will blow today is not something you need. It's not a minor repair.

I’m with you. Yes, it’s definitely an issue but I doesn’t seem like it’s every single one. Even if you look on places like Car Complaints it’s not even listed. I think this forum obviously attracts people who are having issues which further inflates the number of failures.

You probably have a better chance of hitting a deer. At least around here you would.

Having a 2005 (with only 50K miles) I am watching this thread closely (as you can imagine!). I wondered if there has been any official word from Toyota on the head gasket failure. Has anyone seen anything like that? Every time I Google it the only thing that comes up is this forum. :). Don't get me wrong -- this is an invaluable resource and I am reading all of these posts carefully but I wonder if it has been documented that this is a known issue. I see a lot of folks who have had the failure (but to be fair many of them have a ton of mileage on their vehicles) and yet I also see a lot of people who have not had the failure. I was hoping to find out if there were any declarations or what ever from Toyota on this issue. Next time my truck goes to the dealer I will ask the tech but wanted to find out if anyone had other documentation as well.

Don't get me wrong ... I trust this forum but wanted to see what Toyota has said about it, specifically. I hope that makes sense.

A TSB on this issue may give credence to this article. I am of the mind that I have a 15 yr old truck and expect issues to arise. I won’t be holding my breathe but am curious as to Toyota’s stance on the issue.

It can only be a couple things. The design was faulty and there are random failures or there was a manufacturing defect, like a batch of defective gaskets. Toyota is not going to do anything, but they might give vehicle owners a break on parts since the repair cost is high, if not just to keep Toyota trucks, noted for reliability and longevity, on the road.
