Will be havi a baby and caring a car seat in the back. Not the best of ideas but it won't be a primary vehicle so not to worried about that. Thanks in advance for all the help looking to Lear a lot it will be a change for sure.

This is the exact thing I was hunting for and eventually found. The only thing to really worry about is frame rust depending on where you are. They are pretty bulletproof. Of course do all the usual checks like buying any used car, test drive it for a good while and make sure nothing is weird.

Ok thanks man yeah I will def look it over good. Is it a mistake to get a 4cyl over 6? I just know the reliability is usually a lot better on 4cylinders

    Oh do explain, puh-leez!

... and a baby then toddler car seat in an access cab?! Hand me the shoe horn, please.

Family and gear = V6, Double Cab. Easy in, easy out, power to carry the weight and pass, virtually the same gas mileage.

In my experience a 4cyl dependability is unmatched..... Like I stated before this won't by any means be my family car just my around town to and from work truck. We have a Tahoe for family stuff. I have heard and seen some frame rust issues so that's def my biggest concern.

Head gaskets certainly do seem to go out more often on the 6's. As far as car seats in an access cab I agree, not too practical. I love my access cab but if I had kids it would have to be a double cab I think. As far as power the power is more than enough to scoot around even at full weight. This same engine is rated to tow 5k in the Hilux.

Absolutely! I would drive a 6 too though to see if you can live with the difference.

If your driving a '94 Toyota pickup now, the new one will feel like a rocket ship. The V6s are very reliable too so I wouldn't rule one out but the four cylinder is basically unbreakable. As for the Access Cab, I looked at them and I'm not sure if a car seat will fit, try before you buy. I put my 17 month old in a regular cab just fine, but like you said, it's not a primary baby hauler.

Yeah there are pics on the forum of a forward and rear facing seat fittin just fine. Just wouldn't be the best for front riding passanger

I have a kids booster seat behind the passenger in my 07 AC, 2.7/manual and it is not ideal. The front seat is still usable if there is a kid in the seat, but neither passenger has much legroom. There are a few times that I've taken an infant car seat on the drivers side, causing the driver to ride with knees way too close to the dash.
I'm a retired Grandpa, so there are a few times a week that I haul a kid to/from school, I normally have the front seat folded forward so that the kid can get a good view out the windshield. I built a booster for the booster seat, a 4" platform that the chair sits on. Overall, I'd go with a double cab even for the occasional trip with kids.

The other points are worth looking into. The gas mileage is largely a matter of individual driving habits. Check out the 4 cyl forum.

I am not an aggressive driver at all. This will be replacing my 94 everyday work truck I drive 15 miles a day round trip all back rds.... Maybe once or twice a week I'll run an errand after work but not much. And we take the wife's car on the weekends.... The Tahoe ride is really nice compared to about anything else I've ever been in

Anybody else have any input? How are the 2.7s known for timing or headgaskets issues? What usually goes first on these things?

I have 152K on the truck, still getting close to 20MPG on the hwy, never replaced anything on the truck except a battery and rubber parts (wipers/tires...)
still encourage you to look at the double cab, you will take the kid a lot more than you think. You'll be happier with a seat installed in the truck that it fits into...

you asked for input, got comments that said its not the best situation (I don't think anyone said the AC is good with kids...) but still stay with the AC. Why did you ask?

I'm more interested in issues with the truck.... Not with my own contents.....

My engine has been pretty much flawless, bought it at 17,800 miles and currently have 99,000 miles. The only issue was the water pump that had a slow leak at the weephole I noticed just after I bought it. It was covered under factory warranty though.

Only other "problems" are noises related to drivetrain. The 5 speed is a bit dramatic in that it has a notchy feel and almost always makes noise going into 2nd gear, but it has been this way since I bought it >5 years ago and never got any worse or better (and it is a kinda common complaint on here). The other is a slight whirring sound with the clutch out and trans in neutral that goes away when the clutch pedal is depressed. Again, never got any worse or better, and there are several threads about this on here. Still on original clutch now and no sign of slipping or a bad throwout bearing. Another is squeaky clutch that is rectified with a dab of grease on the clutch fork pivot ball every so often. And last is a grinding noise that only affects some regular cabs with one-piece driveshafts, driving in gear and with neutral load on drive train (nothing you need to to worry about with access cab).

Not saying every 2nd gen 4 cyl 5 sp will have these drivetrain noise issues, just what I have experienced. Again, engine has been virtually flawless, and I have come to accept the drivetrain noises as "normal" after 80,000 miles without a single problem.
