98 Tacoma is not same cab room as 2nd gen. I know what you're saying tho. I went from 82 to an 05. World of difference. I'm 6' and have plenty of leg room in my 08 reg cab. I even put double cab storage bins behind the buckets and have same leg room. I actually have seat pulled 1 notch forward from all the way back just to fully depress clutch and still have nice comfortable angle on the back. Anyway, if I were you I would try for 2007 or newer to avoid the engine mount brackets caving in on the frame. Frames were reinforced in that area starting in 2007. Mostly it was a v6 issue tho.

Alright so it has a pound vibration sound coming from the front end.... I rotated the tires and it didn't help.... Put in a new wheel bearing from the side it sounds like it's coming from and the noise is still there. Any ideas?

It ended up being the drivers side wheel bearing.... I got them both replaced and and ride/drives way better now!! Checked my mileage 1st tank and got 22.2 mpg's. That's exactly what I was after!!

You will probably even get better that that for gas mileage. I see 24 mpg on the highway with my '12 AC auto.

I've been tracking the mileage on my 05 2.7 5-speed 4x4 for the five years I've owned it and I average 25 in the summer and 22 in the Winter, and it hardly ever sees the highway. Mileage is determined by driving style. I know there's nothing it can beat off the line, and merging onto the highway requires a reservation, so I tend to go lightly on the gas pedal; it's less frustrating that way. I also put an AFE dry filter in a couple of months ago. Haven't calculated the mileage since then, but if the stories are true it has to be at least 40 MPG </sarcasm>.

If your looking for a little more performance and still want to get good gas mileage consider the LCE header. It's pricey but worth the money. It will drop the torque down in the RPM range and it's something you will definitely notice. There isn't much the 2.7 will respond to but it will with the header. When I bought my truck it was just a touch lacking in the power department. After the header it's now perfectly acceptable.

Ok thanks did you go back with factory exhaust? Or something equally quiet? Bc I love it being quiet... My last two trucks were diesels with 5" straight pipe so muffler is nice!!!

The LCE header is a direct fit and takes about 2-3 hours to installing taking your time. I'm running the stock exhaust and with the header there is very little difference in the noise level. I also like a quiet ride so much so the I installed sound deadening matting in the doors and floor. It's almost as quiet as my '15 Camry.

I believe the LSD was available on the V6 TRD and was never available with the 2.7 4X4. Doesn't yours have the auto LSD button on the dash? My '12 SR5 has it and it works very well. In the winter if im doing the one wheel rear slip I can push the button and the slipping wheel's shoes apply to hold and transfer power to the opposite side.

Did the 250mile trip to the beach last night..... Everything went good.... Got 22 mpg but I ran 75-78 a lot of the time. Before j got it j was a little worried about the 2.7 on the interstate but it does really good Except on really big long hills.

same truck, 2.7, 5 speed, never got 22mpg unless I was going downhill both ways.
run a few tanks to see what you really get.

Not sure why your not getting 22+ mpg. I usually see 23-24 mpg at 65-75mph and if I take it easy and at around 55mph will see 26. '12 acess cab 2.7 4X4 with auto.
