So far wiring is the least difficult and quite minimal:thumbsup:

How high did you have to jack up your truck to get the transmission under with the trans jack/hydraulic lift table? That was the roadblock when I tried to knock out the transmission.

I have the front end in with the ADD wired up, I have the driveshafts/CB extension/hardware, I've just been stuck on the transmission/t-case step.

I jacked up one side by the slider until it cleared the trans, I used one of those Daytona 3 ton floor jacks and I remember it going up pretty high but I didn’t have any issues. Once it was under the truck, I lowered the truck back down

I have a little big of a lift and didn’t have to jack it. Just brought the tail out under the gram and tilted the bell housing down to finagle it out.

First transmission I bought was a dud and reverse didn’t work. Pretty sure I got scammed and the transmission I bought wasn’t the actual transmission listed…. Long story. Anyone have an idea what to do with a A750F with no reverse that I’m now in the hole $400 on after my refund?

Got transmission #2 coming this week. Hoping to have it buttoned up by the weekend.

Got my dash lights working last night. Now time to jam this transmission in...

Got my hands on some 6 ton stands and a pro eagle Jack. Hopefully that puts it high enough to get the trans in there

Awesome! What did you use to connect the wires to speedo? Bare wire?

Seems like that’s the route, or secure a connector with that type of micro pins. I was able to track the part number( that I can’t find) for the connector but comes in a bag of 100 and I was like ”naaah”. I fed bare wire and secure the cables in place with a dab of gorilla glue gel and then secure the 2 wires to the bundle of wires going in to the connector. Tested on vibration and still working as it should.CE8B1D78-2DDE-44C1-BB16-C13C32A59551.jpg

Yeah bare 18 AWG wire jammed in nicely. I stripped about 1cm of bare wire which was enough to get it to stay but still establish a connection.

I found it was really sensitive to shorting so it took some finagling to make it work. I might consider that glue method if it gives me issues after a few drives off road.

correct, i did remove some strands off the actual wire for a perfect fit. I was not concerned since that circuit is ground being provided to the circuit.

Wow awesome write up and congrats to you and others in this thread for successfully converting your Taco's to 4x4s. I too have a 4x2 that I really wish was a 4x4 and have looked into converting it one day but I have yet to take that jump haha. But if I ever do I know have a thread to refer to!

I'm in the same boat as you. Love my truck and might see if a locker is enough for my dispersed camping and mild off-road trips. If not, I'll man up and go this route

Both my brother and my cousin (both avid off-roaders with their 4Runners) have said all I really need is a locker for most trails. However, I snowboard a lot and it would be nice to have 4x4 capability and not have to stop at chain inspection checkpoints during R2 road conditions to put on chains. (And yes I know even with a 4x4 you still need to carry chains lol)

Big thanks to everyone in this thread. After a shoddy first transmission and finally getting a second one to install. Everything works like a charm. However, I do get a code p2714 from my ultragauge. I finished my ATF level and cleared the code, drove around with no shifting issues, reverse and forward are good. Wouldn’t even know a code was being thrown. After driving maybe 10min, the code hasn’t come back… so maybe all good?
