Converting it will roughly be under $4000… I could prob get $15 or a lil more for mine with suspension, armor n everything else I’ve done to it. Buying another second GEN with low miles and 4 x 4 runs about $20… throw another 10+ on top of that for the suspension and armor… The math doesn’t add up in my favor selling and buying a 4 x 4. If my truck was completely stock, I could see that.

Yeah, plus you don't get to claim you converted it to 4 x 4 yourself and it's another excuse to bust out the tools!

Insurance still sees it as 2wd too. My payments haven’t changed:bananadance:

I did check with USAA to be see how they would cover it. They said it would be covered under my “up to $5K in modifications” clause

I checked with my insurance as well and nothing will change. Keep your paperwork on the mods and the cost and you should be good!
Ive been sitting on all my 4x parts for a few weeks now waiting to get the swap started...
My costs are about the same after new seals and hardware. Added a locker and matched gears in the clam shell.

Remember you need the front drive shaft of a Tacoma. The fj cruiser’s if I am correct is a couple of inches shorter.

Diff leak cv axle connection help-

Hey guys, was feeling super accomplished with our phase 1 front end completion (diff, cv axles, hubs, new uppers and lowers, disconnecting sway bar links and new brakes) but after a few small test drives noticed a small diff leak from passenger side diff & cv axle. Had no clunking/ weird noises and other than alignment everything felt great. I think it's one of two things below but could use any opinions and help you can offer.

Cause #1 Are our axles sealed to the diff properly? Worried the non leaking side is not inserted deep enough and the leaking side is inserted too far.

Picture 1 is the non leaking side, but is not resting flush. Am I getting lucky here?

Picture 2 is the leaking side- did we insert too deep? If so could we have damaged the seal and created cause #2?

Cause #2 Diff seal leak- I listed as 2nd because I had a shop re-gear, install an arb air locker, install bushing upgrade and new seals. They said they didn't swap one (passenger side) because it was in good shape- I thought it looked fine as well. Could we have damaged by driving axle too deep?

Any solutions or other causes would be appreciated. First time we've done anthing this intensive (a shop is doing t swap & transfer case install) and I thought we did pretty good until this  Thanks in advance!

Including a pic so you can see leak amount, seems to stay steady here and drip one drop per day.

Thanks & that's what I'm thinking- I think I'll try to back it out a little first (hoping we seated a little deep), but replacing the seal will be next course of action.

I did replace before installation, wanted to play it safe, part no. Should be on page 1 of the thread on the file I attached with all the part no.

I got curious and went and take a look, the passenger seems to sit a little deeper that the on the driver side.

Driver side(images below) seems to sit a little outer.

I actually have the part- asked my shop to do it when they re-geared & changed bearings + needle bearing bearing replacement... they said they didn't change passanger side because it looked good... should have had them do it regardless while the diff was out... not a fun change with everything put together :D live & learn!

Thanks! Mine is definitely seated deeper than either of yours. Curious what @6 gearT444E says if he weighs in.
