Another little update: it’s been 40K miles since the conversion (225K total), again no issues whatsoever. Just got back from a 4K mile trip to Utah/Colorado. Used the 4wd system heavily in deep snow and icy highway conditions. Was shifting in and out of 4wd at 60mph. Had the truck in 4hi doing 75-80mph for hours and hours. Truck took it like a champ, shifting still is buttery smooth:D

This winter is making my 2015 2.7L I4 prerunner feel a bit under powered, and I am considering doing this 4x4 conversion.
Are the component you have listed (transmission, transfer case, drive shaft, etc.) generally compatible with the 2.7L I4 engine?
I skimmed through the pages of this thread but couldn't find anyone that mentioned the I4 engine.

same deal you’ll just need an R155F transmission.

@6 gearT444E @Ricardo13x @Brian422 thx for the reply guys. I got a lot of reading / research to do, but this points me in the right direction. Also, sick build Brian! Your truck is looking sick.

The R155F transmission is manual. Is there a way to do the conversion with an automatic transmission?

yes like Brian said. But if I’d were you I’d just swap a 3rd pedal while your putting more shifters in there. It’ll make the truck moar fun.

4x4 Swap, FJ Case, SAW 2.5 Shocks, 18 Taco suspension,
Is there a reason guys dont use R150F and TC in this swap? Im posting this here because this seems like one of the most covered threads about this swap. I have been reading for 3 days on this swap, and I dont ever see mention of it. I guess I dont know if the Bellhousing from a 2wd R155 will bolt up to aR150F? My research showed if the R150 is 96' or newer the input shaft length should both be 7.5". Thanks for any insight to this or further links to continue my search.

    My truck is a 05 2.7TR 5spd Prerunner

I am pretty sure the r155 and r150 will both have similar bolt pattern to be able to use a gear driven case. Assuming the input shaft length is the same I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

    https://www.pirate4x4.com/threads/3rz-to-r151-and-single-twin-stick.682430/

the r150F are pretty plentiful so I’d try and source one for cheap and measure everything up.

Yes cool, at the time I read that thread I still had it in my head I needed a R155F transmission,
Im sure the R155F / FJC TCase is the better setup, But F***around that stuff is deff more expensive and harder to find.
And BTW the gear driver TC are pass drop, unless you do crawl box, and so on, not going there, I have toyota w/duals on 42s, these questions are for a daily driver. Thanks for the reply.

Couple nuts and bolts 4x converted
Hey Fellas, wanted to stop by and say what up to the first few threads that got me hooked on TW!! 4x conversion is still kicking ass! All thanks to you guys and the info shared! I've had ZERO issues with the ADD and even junked the Sway bar for good!
Question on the front diff since we all installed one when our trucks didnt come with it stock.

I tend to get a little smell of gear oil in the cab, but not All the time.

I'm under the truck enough throughout the week and would notice a leak if one. I know there are two hoses that come off the diff with a stupid metal bracket. One is the Breather for the clamshell itself and the other a 1/4" line comes off the Actuator. I've ran both hoses into the engine bay behind a headlight to get them up and dry.

I can't find where the hell the other end of the 1/4" line hooks up too??

What do you think could cause the gear oil smell??

Thoughts? Thanks, and always appreciate any info:cheers:
