For the ADD switch, could a dual momentary switch be wired up? For example the ch4x4 dual switch https://www.ch4x4.com/product/ch4x4-custom-laser-etched-small-dual-push-switches-for-toyota/

is it possible to wire it so holding one button engages the ADD and then release returns to power off and the other button to disengage the ADD and return to power off? Each button has 5 wires so a total of 10, however it’s only rated to 3A. Or is there some property of a DPDT switch I’m missing?

Believe it or not it’s easier for me to splice up and run wires than it is to press bearings/weld anything. Besides, water seeping into the ADD isn’t too much of a concern in AZ

I did not do none of that. I used the front differential off of a gx470/v8 4runner/MTFJ Cruiser. Those are non ADD from factory. Less things that can go wrong.

    I guess I hadn’t considered that. That’s a pretty good idea. Same 3.73 gears?

There’s actually like a bunch of people that covert their front add diff to non add. There’s a thread I could not find with the part numbers. But if you don’t have the front diff yet, then you still have time to make the right decision.

12th State offroad makes a super easy plug n play ADD switch If you wanna keep your ADD. I chose to keep it in and have had Zero issues. I like being able to disconnect the tcase from the front. Less wear n tear on part that don't need to spin all the time.
I believe that momentary switch will work the same as 12th does. you might be able to come up on the proper "clip" to plug into the ADD? Welcome to peak at the switch and wiring in my rig to compare?

There is no added wear and tear. Remember those components are always spinning on AWD platform. Plus Toyota recommends engagement of 4x4 to keep components on the move. If you already have the front diff, then work with what you have but if you don’t then you can decide. There’s multiple members during the week asking why their lights are flashing when they try to engage the system.

Again, I choose not to do ADD due to trying to reach the simplest nature of the partial 4WD system and emulate an old schools system.

@Yacob_D is an AZ and nailed it on his conversion :fistbump:

If I could adapt the ch4x4 switch to the 12th state add harness that would be amazing. I can’t stand the look of the one they use, the ch4x4 switch fits perfectly in the factory switch slots

4wd crossmember. I flipped it, cut it down and welded a plate and drilled the holes to mount the transmission mount. I think only benefit with the 4wd crossmember that it did clear the front driveshaft. I did have to grind down the holes a little bit to install the bolts on the crossmember to the vehicle.

Im about halfway with my parts collection, I think the hardest part is finding all this stuff, but that it actually has the sensors or accessories attached. eBay vendors are exhausting to deal with lol

What year is your taco and what year was the 4Runner? I read a thread saying on newer 4Runners the wiring is different than it would be for a Tacoma so I would have to change the harness or trace wires and make my own loom. Not sure how valid that is. I was thinking of getting an A750F from like a 2018-2020 4Runner for my 2015 taco since they are so much cheaper

Sup dude, my truck is 2005. based on the paper mine(A750F) is from a 2009 w/ 45k. I believe all 4G4R(2003-2009) should work on the 2g Tacoma(since they have P,R,N,D,4,3,2,1). The 5G4R(2010-current) has only P,R,N,D and the + and -. Based on that the 5G4R A750F variant is a no go. @gearcruncher am I correct?
