05 4.0 head gasket issue. P0012 code Houston area

Yeah I'm trying to get the mechanic to send more pictures of what exactly he is doing and has done but I might just take and L and scrap the truck. Shit is getting rediculous

I'm just spectating on this one, as you can't execute any of the diagnostics and your "mechanic" won't. Sell it as-is on Craigslist so somebody with mechanical ability or an actual mechanic can get it running properly.

If I had the time and tools I would of done it myself. Now I know to just take the bullet and go to a Toyota specific shop for these issues . Wether I want to get 18k in debt for another decent Tacoma is still to be seen.

 

Idk if I want to drop another k on it and still have a beat up truck that isn't worth much .the cheap things sometimes end up costing more and this is one of them .

 

Do you have any pictures with the timing marks all lined up, that you or the builder took?

 

The "mechanic" won't share them with him, I've been asking for this since his first thread on the P0012 error code. Every time the OP takes his truck back, the guy just disassembles it and sends a pic of it disassembled. I still think the guy indexed bank 1 intake sprocket mark on the raised reference mark on the intake cam bearing cap, and not the indented reference mark. Easy mistake to make, and it will leave bank 1 intake cam timing retarded every time.

 

It's my oil pump .It's fucked.

Mechanic says there is a risk of it loosing pressure again even after putting a new one on. That it might knock right away or after a year. So now idk if I should just trade it in or still try and go on with this.

 

If you like the truck, just get a used engine and swap it in

I do like the truck. But it's not worth much anymore. Deer hit the side and took the rear door out of comission. The lovely Toyota fading paint .some other small dings. And already are 220k. Idk if throwing another 3k at it for an engine swap is practical at this point unfortunately. As this is my only mode of transportation it makes it hard to leave it as a project

 

I'm guessing that the claim is because the fixed side of the pump that can't be replaced is scored? If that's the case, bring it to a machinist, have him fill and resurface it.

 

Unfortunately I am out of time and need a car by this weekend. So will probably try and get it running long enough to go trade it in.

 

A good machinist should be able to do that by tomorrow.

 

@morelia after reading this thread I have one thing I think I can contribute. I would stop referring to whoever was working on this as a "mechanic" he sounds more like a parts swapper and a dangerous one at that.

 

I'll agree with that. I also wonder what caused the damage to the oil pump, since the VVT was apparently working BEFORE the head gasket job.

 

Broken camshaft probably.

 

He is a pretty good mechanic normally. Was late sometimes but always did the job correctly. This is the first time he has let me down to such a degree.

 

On Thanksgiving? Unlikely unfortunately
