Sup fellas. New to this particular forum. I have an 05 4dr 4wd Taco, with 180k miles. Just changed out the U Joints and Carrier Bearing myself today. Truck still has a little shutter in the drive shaft during acceleration/deceleration. Just looking for outside perspectives before I dive back in. New U joints could definitely use a little more grease. Also thinking the driveshaft might be off by a tooth. I marked it before removal, but it's not perfect. Input/feedback would be greatly appreciated. Truck has spacer/level kit on front, with oversized tires, so I know it's gonna ride like shit. But it shouldn't be shuttering the way it is. Thanks!

I just installed a new carrier bearing today, along with the U joints.

These trucks are notorious for drive line vibes front and rear with a lift. When the truck is lifted the u-joint angles and cv angles change and create some chaos. Here are a few tips :

    1. Use washers as spacers to lower your carrier bearing a bit which will reduce the rear angle a bit. Lots of folks have good luck with this method, you can just add a couple of washers at a time until you find it resolves your issue.

    2. Rear axle shims, these will move the nose of your rear pinion up which also reduces the angles.

    3. If you shift into 4wd do any of the vibes go away ? If so it is highly likely that the needle bearing on the drivers side of the front diff is toast. East Coast Gear Supply makes a bushing to replace that bearing which generally resolves front end vibes.

    4. Check your front hubs / wheel bearings, they are also notorious for wearing out and will give you a good vibe before they self destruct. Jack up the front of the truck until the tires are off the ground, grab the tire at 12 and 6 o'clock and give it a firm shake. If there is any free play your hub is toast. There are a couple of guys on here that sell pre assembled complete replacement hubs at a really good deal.

All of these are super common issues that nearly everyone runs into eventually...

Shudder on acceleration is the usual Tacoma axle wrap.
