So, I’ve searched of course, and all threads I can find are different than my situation.

My 05 base model 4 cyl 5 speed access cab now has 175,000 and I need to replace shocks and struts. I’ll be doing the work myself with basic tools, then alignment @ Les Schwab.

I need a suggestion of brands/models. I don’t want to lift or lower, just want to replace. Don’t need gold plated, don’t need barely acceptable. On my VWs (6) I’ve used KYBs that have served me well.

The offerings and advice in threads are everything but what I need to do, so really confusing.

If there’s any really good deals/offers out there would be good to know too. I’m in the boonies PNW, so bare that in mind.

    Thanks in advance
    RB

I replaced my rears with a cheap($50/pr shipped from Rock Auto) set of Monroe shocks and they did pretty well. Of course this was coming from a completely blown set of stocks so anything would have been better. Used them for a week or two until my Vikings came in to match my fronts. If you were closer to Socal I'd let you have them.

You might have better luck asking the the 5-lug or 4 cylinder sub forums but as you've already discovered most threads are about going up or down.

The best shock for the money vs longevity would be the Bilstein 4600's. Rock auto has a great price on them, but they will ride a bit stiffer than stock but do not increase height, they are well matched if going up to a larger rim or wider tire. The kyb's are about 2/3rds the cost and will last less than 2/3rds the miles.
