I'm not so worried about the fuse box stuff as I am the plastic panels that cover everything.

Any trouble with the clips with the panels?

My panels popped loose very easily. I have big fat fingers and the only problem I had was getting the plugs loose from the lower dash panel like the RSCA button. I just left them attached and worked around it.

One caution. The stamped metal supports holding the dash are very sharp. Have some Bandaids handy.

Is the kit still on sale for $45 on TRDParts4u? I don't see it, nor do I see the individual parts, either. I'd like to order these up within the next couple of days. It's about time to get this mod done.

    Thanks.

TRDParts4u changed their website. Now official Toyota replacement parts are sold under a different name www.ToyotaPartSales.com

Thanks for that information. I'm not sure if they sell the "kit" any longer for $45, but the two parts added together are close at $48. On top of that, shipping is the cheapest of the three sites listed in the OP. I'll be ordering this up right now.

How long did this take for you guys? I just received my parts for it, but I'm trying to plan when to complete it. I'm already doing a Satoshi and mounting offroad lights, not sure when I can fit it into my busy schedule! :D

i predicted it taking about 45 minutes, but since the write up is done with such precision it only took me 20 minutes. Well 15 really.. it took me an additional 5 minutes to check this site to see that it only works when the e-brake is disengaged haha

DRL are the yellow rectangular lights within your headlight assembly. They will run when the truck is running. It sounds to me as though you are simply leaving your low-beam headlights on, which is a different thing.

I did this mod this week. Took me about an hour if I had to guess. Super easy to do... thanks for the write-up and part number information. I'm SO STOKED that I finally have this mod installed!

This is very easy to do.

I did it in under an hour....well sort of.

After I finished and had everything put back together my DTRLs worked. However, then I noticed a few things weren't working...ie the gauges and the radio.

I thought I had blown a fuse but after about an hour of pulling and testing fuses I couldn't find the problem.

So I tore everything apart again (much faster this time because I knew what I was doing). I started pushing on the all the connectors and sure enough....one went "click!!!" Reconnected the battery and voila everything is working again.

My advice.....make sure all of the connectors are secure and once you get everything reconnected....reconnect the battery and try everything.

    Hope this helps someone.

    Cheers

    J.O.

So those DRL lights are not already working when you buy the Tacoma? It's a mod? I see them on all the time on Tacoma's, does that mean all them have done the mod?

Most likely. Or they have a newer truck that has it already installed.

Does anyone know how much more you have to pay for Toyota to install it for you? I wonder if it's just as bad as the $900 fix for the temp gauge.

I think that it must be a factory option when you purchase the truck new. The panel is built to accomodate the DRL mod, which makes me believe that they are producing some from the factory with the DRL installed. I also see these on Tundras quite regularly, so I can't imagine this many people are doing it at home.
