I am confused. I've owned this truck since brand new. I like this mod, by buying and installing two parts, but is there a way to also turn off the DRLs if I want to drive incognito?

Sorry, i think I misunderstood you so disregard my reply. I don't know how to control the DRL in this mod, hopefully someone else can chime in.
I got the same DRL result but i tapped into my corner marker lights.

I haven't been here in quite some time but I did the DRL to my '09 Taco shortly after I bought it and still have it. At some point later there was a post about the DRL bulbs burning the amber part of the light which apparently was plastic. My DRL were burned. I don't know if it was in this thread or another but it said that Toyota had a "silent" warranty that took care of this. I took my truck to my dealer and they replaced both headlamp assemblies no charge with ones that have amber glass and no questions asked even though my truck did not come new with DRL.

Interesting to know that they will still swap these. Are you able to tell the difference between the glass compared to the plastic version? I'm not sure what my truck has.

I don't know if they will still do this or not. I can't remember when I did this but it was many years ago. I mainly wanted to alert you that you might see the plastic amber lens burn over time. I don't know if you can tell the difference between the glass ones and the plastic. And, I don't know what after market ones from places like Rock Auto have. I do remember that the dealer showed the replacement cost as about $1200 to change the light assemblies.

I noticed something when I went out to use my truck this morning. IIRC the original lights that burned were behind a rectangular orange plastic inside the glass. The new ones use clear glass with an amber bulb. So, if your DRL's have clear glass and an amber bulb you are ok. If plastic you will get a round dark burn spot about the size of a penny eventually.

Thanks for reporting back. Mine have a clear-ish lens in front of an amber bulb. The plastic or glass has a bit of an orange hue to it but is mostly clear. Thinking these are the newer style.

Can anyone confirm if the part numbers are still the same? I searched them to order and the jumper came back as “hazard warning flasher”. Is this correct?

I purchased mine from a dealership, via ebay.
Search "Toyota Tacoma Daytime Running Light Kit DRL Genuine OEM OE"
Listing was still active as of 08/20/2022.
...and, yes, the black box is a flasher.

I know this is an old thread but wanted to see if anyone knew if the replacement flasher in this mod is LED compatible or if there is an aftermarket flasher that is for the DRL setup that is LED compatible. I did my best to read through the thread but didn't see anything addressing this. I'd like to add some aftermarket lights with LED DRLs but would prefer a clean install rather than having to put in adapters or resistors if I can get away with it.

I don’t believe so. Just replace and use LEDS then live with your turn signals hyper-flashing. It’s not that big of a deal and the upgrade to LEDS far outweighs the hyper-flash. That’s what I did and have no regrets. Although I don’t recommend using anything other than standard halogen bulbs in the stock housing. Then upgrading to an LED type DRL. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Thanks for the reply. What research I've been able to do kind of confirmed the lack of the 12-pin LED flasher. My truck didn't come with factory DRL so I've already replaced the 8-pin flasher and put LED bulbs in the factory lights and that works fine without hyper flashing. I have my eyes on the Alpharex Pro Series headlights and they make a converter for trucks without DRL which I *think* will work if I just leave in the 8-pin flasher. I was just trying to see if I could keep things simpler and not have to deal with the extra wiring under the hood.

2011 Tacoma WITH DRL, trying to remove them: i did the reverse of 007's write-up, and replaced the jumper and DRL relay with the Non-DRL Flasher# 81980-02030 and jumper #82671-30360.
Now I don't have DRL's AND no front turn signals.
    Everything else works 100%.
I can feel the new relay working when I push the hazard lights button.
    All fuses good.
    Trying to find the solution.
I don't want to do the "cut the green/red wire mod", as I don't want DRL's, but if that is the only solution then I will.
    Any asssistance/solution is greatly appreciated

The first post stated that for 2006-2009 Tacomas, the jumper isn't needed. I have a 2007 TRD sport from the USA but I live in canada. Can I purchase just the relay and plug it into my fuse block to enable my DRL's? Someone please advise. Thanks

the first post says this…”This installation also works on 2003-2009 4Runners, but you will not use the jumper. You only need the relay Part # 82241-04030”

I dont see it saying anything about 06-09 Tacomas

Thanks for the clarification. I mis-read that part. I will therefore get both items. On another note, the US dealer wired the low beams using a relay so when you switch on the ignition, the low beams come on. How do i remove this setup when I install this mod? This is my first Tacoma, so I'm working to get it set up as be Canadian standards. Any steps there will be greatly appreciated Thanks!

One other question: If I replace the fuse block with one from a Canadian Tacoma, would the DRL work? Anyone ever did that? I have access to a used one from a Canadian Tacoma. Thanks

From the Royal Toyota site on eBay.

These are the Genuine Toyota Relay & Jumper Wire used on the following models:

2005 - 2012 Tacoma (Not Applicable for Tacoma's that came with Factory Tow Package or Factory Daytime Running Light System)

I have a factory tow package. Bummer!
