'05 Motor Mounts Failed/Failing

My 05 has very shitty looking welds, and you can see they are starting to rust between the frame and the weld. My truck has 28,000mi, no jumping I can assure you. The 07- newer trucks have a frame reinforcement in this spot because of this issue, the welds are also much much beefier. There is some pics around comparing the difference, I think maybe at the beginning of this thread. As far as I know there is no difference in drivetrain from 05-present, for a V6 4x4. Frame warranty is 3 years or 36,000mi I believe. This is definitely something to keep an eye on, as it is becoming much more common on TTORA and some other sites.

 

Uhh, the issue is the motor mounts failing by collapsing into the frame-- it's pretty obvious that the new plate is to fix that issue. Whatever the cause (metal being too thin, undercut welds, etc.) the plate is there for that reason.

 

Oh I see, good pint, I didn't consider they were burning through the frame. So the weld is possibly to deep.

 

It is quite noticeable that the main frames are made differently. The older frame has a seam in it, the newer frame does not.

 

I've got an 06 built in January, and mine's the same. about 3 or 4 white paint dots right on the weld.

Mine's only got 35K on it though, and I didn't see any signs of failure.

 

Checked my mounts and the same. Mine was manufactured in Farmington, CA 04/06. no plate reinforcements, but the welds felt thicker and there are white dots on each face of the weld. Everthing looked fine at 60K miles.

 

90,000 miles on my '06 and the mounts look solid ~ no rust, cracks, anything. The truck is "new" to me, but I know it was used pretty hard for hunting on dirt/gravel roads so its had some off-road use. Hopefully this will never be a problem for those of us not catching air in our Tacos!

 

My 05 has been in WI its whole life. The mounts still look good to me. Not too worried.

 

Told my buddy that got a 05 taco about this the other day and he said he never heard about it before and kind of ignored me.lol. Oh well i guess it sucks for him not having a computer. I've tried explaining this site to him but i just don't think he gets it!

This thread has kind of meandered around some after colvilletacoma's May entry.

I have been sitting here reading through all 11 pages and am very impressed at you guys diagnostic and resolution abilities.

Then I am seriously in doubt about my trust in Toyota and their customer relations.

Anywho.... Has anyone had any resolution from Toyota on any of the frame problems?

Or you all just repairing the situations on your own? Which I suspect is the situation from the lack of positive posts about the frame thing.

I am also assuming (we know how that is...lol) that when you reinforce the frame on one side, you are doing the other side as well. I believe I saw that in several of the posts.

If you aren't,,,, is that changing the elevation of your motor mount enough to "cock" your motors slightly? Which wouldn't be good. I guess I didn't see in all of the posts that both sides were being done.

Or does the frame reinforcement not effect the elevation of the motor mount?

It's just been wayyy too many years since I have done any motor mount work, so sorry if this sounds like silly questions.

Having been in a corporate world for too long, when you email one entity at Toyta, gather as many emails as you can and .CC all of them as well. Do the .CC and not the .BCC so all of them will see who the emails are going to.

I have seen that resolve some issues at lower levels that may not gert resolved otherwise.

I bought a 2001 V6 Taco (as you guys call them ) just a few days ago and really appreciate finding this forum. I will be out underneath it as soon as it dries up around here, thanks to all the info I have found here. I realize this scenario doesn't go back to 2001, But I will be under it none the less.

I love it, but had I have found this forum first, I may not have bought it.

But I think it will be ok

If Toyota was smart, they would be monitoring these forums/threads and looking to resolve issues, as we are the future of Toyota, to a degree.

Just imagine how many people we could sway from not buying Toyota if they aren't responsive.

LFH, I believe the 1st gen Tacoma, pre 2005 motor mounts are fine. I haven't seen any, but is seems mostly a problem with the 2005-2007ish trucks with the V6. Good idea to check yours out though! It seems Toyota is pretty slow to do anything about frame issues. That being said there is a recall for earlier Tundra frames and of coarse early Tacoma's that were rusting out. One day they might address the issue with the motor mounts, especially since in 2007 I believe they changed the design of the motor mounts, the engineers must have seen something they didn't like about them.

 

Has anyone with an 05 or 06 Tacoma filed a safety complaint about the motor mounts and the apparent upgrade that Toyota has made to the newer frames to the NHTSA??? I filed a complaint 12/7/09 asking them to look into this as a potential safety issue. I don't see any other complaints from any other 05 or 06 Tacoma owners when I searched their site. I don't have an issue at this time, but I'm not going to wait until it fails and Toyota say's sorry your warranty is up and it's not covered. I would hope that others would support this issue so all might benefit. Strength in numbers, and squeeky wheels get the oil.

i just started noticing the other day my fan was rubbing on my shroud and i couldnt figure it out, and it would get worse if i hit a bump, i checked my motor mounts they seemed ok but ill take a look again and check the welds, but this sounds like it could be a good possibility ill check mine tomorrow and if it is ill take some pictures before i fix it!! if thats the problem

 

so i just crawled underneath my truck and indeed the frame is cracking where the motor mounts are, but not just one side its both. if u need any more support let me know! i have pics if needed!!

try posting up their site............maybe we all can get frame replacements and have Toyota pay for it all.....as for mine, frame and mounts still looks solid
