I am writing to see if anyone else has had the same issues I have. I don't want to hijack the thread, but I'm wondering if you guys are having any of these problems on other years.

1.Once the vehicle is engaged in 4hi, the differential axle screws up and causes the vehicle to spin out of control even at low speed when turning corners. Vehicle wont switch in to 4 low.

    2. The radio. I've had the radio replaced once already and the second one is on the fritz. There are major electrical problems with this truck. Turn the lights on and your radio turns on, turn a corner and your radio turns off. I think Toyota has issued a band aid fix, telling owners that the problem is a defective radio, when the electrical system is to blame.

I think its time for people who have been ripped off by Toyota to band together before someone gets killed.

Good luck Colville..and thx to SNoboarder for the pics. I'll have to check it out first thing in the AM....wonder if it has anything to do with a strange "thunk" sound when i'm stopped ..kind like the pressure off the drive shaft or something..hmm..

    Wow,

This is my first time posting but I have been lurking for a couple weeks now. This past Saturday I purchased a used '05 DoubleCab 4x4. This frame issue has me a bit freaked out. Luckily my vehicle came with the Certified Pre-Owned Warranty and when I checked it out it covers the engine mounts. Maybe the original power train warranty also covers those mounts.

I also purchased an 05 DoubleCab 4x4 last Saturday, a TRD Off-Road. It too was a Certified Pre-Owned, and this time I got an extended warranty and maintenance contract, since the truck was a 4x4 and 5 years old, albeit with only 23k on the odometer. After some negotiation, I got the coverage and cost to what I wanted it to be, so I don't think it would be an issue if something develops on the motor mounts, as far as getting them fixed.

That truly is scary Bro. I'm scared this maybe the source of the strange vibration most of us seem to have at certain speeds, but theres a ton of insights into that "phenomenon" and I haven't had time to explore them all yet. Am I rambling? I've been up late 3 nights in a row, doing lil else than absorbing all the info on this site like a thirsty sponge in a water park!

Tomorrow I'm gonna check my motor mounts again, and the transmission mounts too.

Great pic bro, Kudos, and best of luck!

So I noticed that someone previously responded to this post that they had their mounts reinforced. How much would something like that cost to have done and is it recommended? I want to make sure this truck lasts me for a long time.

Thanks for the heads-up! I've got an '05 with 82,000 miles on it and I'm going to check the mounts when I get home from work.

I had mine done but can't give you a cost. It was rolled in with a bunch of other fabrication I had done at the time.

Recommended? Well, it's not going to hurt anything to reinforce the mounts. I bash my truck pretty hard and didn't want to take the chance of something that major giving way.

I just checked out mine (double-cab, long-bed, 4x4, manufactured 01/05). My motor mounts look OK - pretty rusty - but not breaking.

These welds look a little beefier than some of the photos posted here. Any chance there is a difference between the longer frames for the long bed and the other frames?

I have an 05 pre-runner v6 long cab with 95,000 miles on it. My mounts look fine to me. No cracks on the welds or anything, but since i plan on keeping this truck another 5 years, I may go ahead and have them re-enforced.

However, while under the truck, i noticed the steering assembly from the ujoint going into what I am guessing is the power steering assembly(2 tubes coming out of it) has gunk all over it. A thick greasy layer of grease that is kind of dried on. I noticed everyone elses pics of this are pretty clean. Any idea what this is?
