It's interesting how this is similar to what's going on with Toyota today regarding the recalls. There were problems with the cars but Toyota ignored them hoping people would just go away. It would have been much cheaper and easier to just handle the problem when it happened and fixed things. OK so it costs money but looking back now Toyota is really going to have to shell out money for all the cars instead of the few that really had problems.

I agree its obvious the motor mounts have changed from 2005, but an engineer designed the frame to handle the load. Perhaps after the design was put into use some signs of breakage took place. It's not a wide spread problem from reading the forums but I agree Toyota should step up to the plate and repair any trucks that show signs of cracking or breakage without the customer needing to make a big deal. Its just good sense.

Did anyone narrow down exactly when Toyota changed the motor mount design? We know it's different on 2005 and then 2007 but when exactly did they make this change?
    Are all 2006 models included?

Dana Corporation fixed the issue in 2007. The frames are not made by Toyota.

How much did it cost you to fix it? I just got my "new to me" 05 in December so far no issues but I'm nervous...

New member here. Googled y'all up under failed engine mounts and glad I did. Just took my 2005 Tacoma to a local shop to have motor mounts replaced due to fan hitting housing. Found the identical failure depicted earlier in this thread. Local Toyota dealer said, of course, that no one's ever heard of such a problem. His regional(?) rep is to be in the area tomorrow and I'm invited to bring my truck in for him to look at. For your record keeping, this truck has never had any sort of modifications made to it and has only about 45,000 miles to it's credit. It gets used for work off-road about three months out of the year. It's used hard, which is why I buy Toyotas, no? But it's never been abused. Frame just broke.

What do you mean "going out"? Popping out of gear or straight up transmission shop work?

That'll be a tough sell. Your best bet is to find a local fabricator or skilled welder that will fix the issue. Dealers aren't really equipped for this kind of repair.

You'll want to make sure that the mount is shifted back to the original position before any reinforcements are welded in place.

    Welcome to TW!

Has there been any talk made about the removal of sway bars and the effect on the motor mounts. I just order the Toytec ULK and plan on removing sway bars. My mounts look good and I plan on beefing them up regardless (those welds are pathetic....). It seems to me the extra flex and body roll will transfer more stress to the remaining points of contact...what do you guys think?

My drivers side mount has totally caved in on the chassis! Not good. I have been waiting two weeks in limbo to see what Toyota Canada is going to do (if naything at all). I have a 05'. Dealer thinks that it cannot be fixed. Said that I would go through a lot of front tires if I welded a plate to the chassis etc.

Has anybody gotten any satisfaction on this issue from Toyota? Either the dealership or corporate.
