Hey, I just need some help.. Im not sure if my 05 is having problem like the one you are saying but I want to know how did you know that your truck was having those problems. Did it make any sound or something?

My Tacoma have a weird sound and I checked it yesterday and I think the problem is in the engine mount, but im not sure if it is the mount by itself or the welds.

So any help, any information will be helpful

The easiest way to tell if you aren't mechanically inclined enough to crawl under the truck and check the mount, is that your engine fan will no longer be centered in the hole of the radiator shroud.

Im really not having problems with the fan.. What I do have is a weird sound that comes from below the engine.. It usually sounds when I change the gear from N to R and when i pass an speedbomb.

I have just discovered that the same thing has happened tomy 2005 tacoma. Has anyone been able toget Toyota to cover the cost of the repair or replace the frame? I have complained to Toyota and they say therenothing they can do because there no recalls. Based on this thread and several other this is a reoccurring.

My '05 motor mount on the driver side punched through the frame. I spent quite a bit of time on the phone with Toyota Corporate late in the day yesterday. This particular customer service rep said there are no TSB's or recalls, therefore no help for me.

The truck is parked at the dealer's right now, and I'm in a rental RAV4 that I'm paying for myself. I'm not sure about my next move.

By the way, I don't off-road or drive the truck hard. I have 110K and love the truck. I'm just not very happy right now! I bought it less than a year ago after Toyota gave it a thorough look over. Now I wonder how thorough.

Glad I live in Georgia and don't have to deal with this crap like the folks up north. Hopefully Toyota will pony up and fix this crap.

The frame mounts are also failing on warm weather trucks that aren't rusted.

That totally sucks. There are reinforcement gusset kits available. Maybe someone here can post the link, I don't remember who sells them. If I were you, I'd find a competent welder and have him install the reinforcement kit after pulling the mount back where it should be and welding it up. Don't have your buddy who's welded a few times do it, find someone who's been welding every day for a decade or so, it does not look like a job for an amateur.

Once it's fixed, take Toyota to small claims. There's a lot of discouraging posts on here about Toyota telling owners like you they are out of luck. I believe one guy got a whole new frame, but his truck was down like, 6 months, not to mention the endless arguing with Toyota.

Good luck. Post up results if you can.

If anyone knows of a good reinforcement kit, please post a link. My mounts are good for now, but I'd be pretty irked if they failed...

I got this link from more than one forum, here too, I think. Paul made my kit on Friday and it should get here by the end of the week. Take a look at what he does and give him a call. There are a couple others, also out in CA I think.

It's on this page, and it's the weld-it-yourself gusset kit:

How much is everyone paying to have them welded in?

I thought at first that I would do it myself, but I went back and looked at how caved in the frame is at the motor mount and I know I don't have the time or the knowledge to do this right. I'm going to be calling my mechanic on Monday (not the Toyota shop - they outsource their welding anyway.) One of the guys does a lot of welding, and if the owner of the shop says he's good, I believe him.

I'll post back when I know more about the cost. The passenger side will be much easier both because it hasn't caved there yet and because there is more room. I don't know if my guy will drop the differential or not, but that's got to add cost, though it might cut down on time by giving him some room to work. We'll see.

So, I was thinking that this thread has been going for a few years now. One person mentioned that they had called the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, NHTSA.

My idea is that we ALL need to call if we have this problem. Having your engine punch through the frame on the driver side and then maybe punch through your radiator when you go downhill, or into your lap if you put on your brakes is a traffic highway safety issue. Isn't it?

Here is the phone number to call to file a complaint with NHTSA. 1-888-327-4236. The feds are the ones that would get Toyota to deal with this, I think.

I have a case number with Toyota Corporate, too, but I can't find the card that has their number on it or I would post that, too. They, of course, say that this problem doesn't exist. But, as colvilletaco[?] said many years and pages ago, even if you don't off-road at all, but there are potholes in your town and you have a V6 engine on this wimpy frame, you probably are going to punch a driver's side motor mount through the frame just because you drive the truck. Not because you abuse it in any way. This is a design flaw.

My gusset kit won't get here from CA until April 2. My shop will weld it up the next day. At least that's the plan. Meanwhile I'm paying for my rental car, and keeping all the receipts.

I'll let you know how much the welding costs when I get the bill. The kit from solomotorsports is $145 for both sides.

So, file a complaint. Please? (See above for the phone number.)
