As of now, just having spoken to Toyota Corporate recall department, I have to bring the car into the dealership to determine if the cracking is real. At that point, I can call Toyota corp again with the case number and they will determine whether or not they will offer assistance. And the way they do that is to look at my dealership service records, mileage, how far out of the original warranty I am, modifications and how many Toyota products I own. Seriously?

I find it interesting that a decision to fix a structural design flaw that creates a safety hazard for the driving public can be in any way affected by my loyalty to the company. i.e., how much money I've spent on their products. The fact that they would actually state that boggles the mind.

It's goodwill/loyalty dollars that each dealership is allowed to spend. IF you qualify (I did with the front diff at 93k miles), they split the cost with you 50/50 or less. From their response, it's clear they won't be covering it under their frame recall. I agree that it's amazing an engine can collapse yet it's not a safety issue on the road. But don't let a spare tire hanger fail because that's dangerous.

For me, after researching the newer model trucks and what mine is worth, I'm sticking with her and springing for the fix. I really don't want to go through the frame replacement when a simple sturdy gusset will suffice. Especially for my level of extra curricular driving. And this is my truck. All its scars are mine and it's paid off.

DMZ all the way! http://dmzfab.com. These guys build desert trucks. I feel pretty confident that they know what they're doing. Tim is great, honest and had done a whole bunch of these. I brought it there yesterday and it's done today. Much more than I would expect from Toyota dealership service on something like this. Plus, that clacking noise that was in there is gone. That headache alone was worth the cost.

Just found my driver side cracked and starting to cave in today while pulling my front diff
'05 Access cab, TRD Sport, 90k miles. Going to talk to toyota on monday just to see what bs they give me but most likely just solo or dmz gussets to fix since my truck is torn apart in my garage getting LT and re-geared.

Just thought I would update my situation - Truck is still at dealership and I still have the rental they supplied. No news on when the new frame will arrive. They did tell me they just completed a frame replacement for a customer that had been on the list since September. I'm in no hurry... All the miles are going on their rental!

Maybe some day they'll get it. Three years after I bought my '06, the leaf springs on the drivers side broke. Never heard about that happening to anyone else. But now, 9 years after that, I get a recall notice about leaf springs breaking. And yet here's this forum and this thread with hundreds of truck owners with motor mounts punching through the frame, and there's nothing! Kinda crazy. I'm happy I did my own fix with DMZ. If you know a welder and have a truck in that build year range, I would highly recommend being pro active and getting the DMZ kit. I'm not working for them, nor do I get any kickback, but he's the only guy I found who's designed the cups to reinforce the mounts. http://dmzfab.com
    Good luck guys.

    Hey dakotasyota,
i'm not sure about that. All in was just under a grand. But the work was awesome the fix made a huge difference to my peace of mind. I'd had this clicking noise for about a year, like a wrench was stuck somewhere in the frame. Then went camping last 4th of July and was headed down off the mountain fairly well loaded up with gear and my family. We were heading down a pretty steep incline and my front end started to wobble like crazy. Like heavy enough to lose my front end. It felt like a wheel was about to fall off! That was it! I had enough and went on a search. No joke, I had about 15 different mechanics look at it. All of them had some kind of fix in mind. $$$ But none found the problem. I did my own investigation and narrowed it down to the motor mount. But in the end, I found Tim at DMZ through one of these threads on this or another forum. He lives about an hour from me. He lifted the truck, looked at the frame with a flash light and found cracks 3/4 of the way around both mounts. HOLY SHIZA! That was my whole family put at risk!!! For me, I saw the potential headache in fighting this issue with Toyota. Especially after my initial phone calls. And it wasn't worth the time/money to fight it when I could fix it.
The clicking is gone, the front end is stable fully loaded on steep inclines and anything else. Done deal. Thanks Toyota.

This may have already been pointed out but there is a frame recall on certain model years and regions. Therefore, it stands to reason if your motor mounts are rusted through the the rest of the frame may be questionable and could be replaced all at once. I just had my frame replaced but haven't looked to see if the motor mount areas are beefier. Anyone else know? I would venture to guess no given they are factory frame replacements.

A crack is different than rust. But I believe one person got theirs replaced recently due to the motor mounts failing using the frame rust recall. And yes, the new frames are different at the motor mounts. They changed the design by '07.
And the rust recall is spreading across the nation.

Mine cracked. Both sides, driver side worse then the passenger. Would hear a weird clicking/clunk/pop noise every now and then.

Bought the kit from Tim over at DMZ and welded it up. Fitment was perfect and no more worries.

Got it and glad to hear the new/replacement frames have been redesigned to address it. It makes sense they would fix any short comings of the frame design.
