Good luck to you and keep us posted! Are you pulling the motor and having the mounts repaired and reinforced, or are you going for that 3D welding idea without pulling it?

without pulling. I know it can be done well enough to get the job done and have me feel comfortable enough with it. It would just cost too much to pull the damn motor and I would want Toyota to pull the motor but dont want they to do the work. I know other people can reinstall the motor but would only feel comfortable with techs who knows Toyotas, but I wouldnt trust their welding and the job they will do. Therefore im at a standstill and am just going to go with what Tacosupreme did and mpower and do a quick fix without having to do it for now. On that note HEY TACOSUPREME! Can you PM ME pics of your mounts that you welded up? I just want to check them out and could care less if they are crappy welds, mine would be worse, haha. Just want to check them out.

No, after I show the guy I know how I want it done its kind of up to him on how he wants to do it. Its not going to be easy thats for sure but Im sure he'll do his best. He does a lot of fabrication as well. Toyota Flatbeds, custom exhausts and pretty much anything you ask him. We'll see what he can do and come up with. I cant remember if Marnes had his engine removed or not? Marnes if you read this let me know, i really cant remember

05's, 06's havent had any problems yet but they dont have the reinforced Gussets like the 07's and up have. Its also only a 4.0L V6 problem. Access cabs and Double Cab short beds i think. Mainly watch out for 05's htough. If you get one and then I would pay for it to be reinforced by someone, would put your mind at ease

Do you wheel at all? Meaning do you take it offroad a lot or I guess I should ask if you plan to take it offroad?

I'm assuming that matters? I would have thought a faulty weld is a faulty weld, despite how it is used. I mean, sure, if I don't offroad it would last longer, but inevitably fail, no?

Well they are shitty welds but people who dont really offroad or do it hard wont really have the problem as it should hold with regular street driving. Thats not to say that if you live in a city with really shitty streets that it wont happen but I would bet that it would be fine. Also places with a lot of salt may be worse then others. If you live near the ocean or if you live where they salt the roads a lot with bad winters and what not. I havent heard of anyone who has had an 05 that does regular street driving have a problem with them failing yet.

but yeah i think it will eventually fail if you do offroad hard. Slight small trails where you dont hit stuff too hard i wouldnt worry about it. Some people jumper their trucks and theirs have failed which is easy to see. I have never jumped my truck and mine have failed, but i am not easy on it thats for sure. I take it on some hard trails and use it in the woods more then i do on the streets

Also here is what I wrote on TTORA:

Went into the shop today. He is going to do it just like the guys at DMZ did it. He said it shouldnt be a problem at all. I have see a lot of his work and he does a pretty damn good job. He did a flat bed for my buddies 91 (I think) Toyota Pickup (anyways its that body style just not sure on the year of his) and did it in 1 day and it looks badass! He charged him $1100 for the whole flatbed and all the work. He doesnt charge too much and is good at what he does. He thought he could have it done in one day since thats the only rig he'll be working on but found out that it will take a bit longer and he'll have it done tomorrow sometime. Ill definetly post some pics up afterwards. Im not guaranting that it will look exactly like Marnes that DMZ did but im sure it will look pretty damn good, im hoping!

You mean the gussets im going to use to put the mount back up? Basically it will look similar to the work that Marnes on TTORA had done to his 05 Taco. Ill post the pics on here because Im sure he wont mind since he post them on TTORA a few times. Im not saying mine are going to look exactly the same because different people do different work, mine might not be as good as his or they might be better i wont know till i see it but here are the pics:

In the picture you can see a gusset in between where it was mounted to the frame and there are also vertical gussets in there which help it from wanting to cave into the frame. He is going to fix the drivers side on mine, which caved in all the way, and he is going to patch the passengers side and put the vertical gussets on it to keep it from doing that, as well as fix a cracked weld. Here is the pics of my drivers side before:

Alright here is the finished product! I think he did a pretty badass job myself, he didnt pull the motor and did it on a lift and he jacked up the engine with a tranny jack (a stand one) All I have to do it spray some Rustoleum on it tomorrow when I have a chance. Its too damn wet out right now, we have a lot of snow and had a 46 degree day and everythign is melting pretty good. Anyways I will post the pics here. First one is the Drivers side and the second is the passenger side. Oh yeah and guess what he charged me......I know its an OUTRAGEOUS amount....$250 bucks:

He was able to weld 100% around the entire mount too without having to remove the engine, so it can be done. He had to do it from the top, through the engine bay on one part to get it done right. He said it was a bitch but that he wanted to do it right. He could of made it look a little prettier like DMZ did but its almost identical in my opinion. Just a little Rustoleum when I get a chance and its good to go!
