This is to gather data to help push Toyota to issue a recall/TSB to get this catastrophic damage taken care of.

    All posters should provide:

    State
    Year of production
    Exact model of truck
    Status of Toyota inspection
    Picture of frame perforation

Looks like they're trying to scare me... I bet the lift and snorkel caused the rust. The welding I could argue with. If it was anywhere near the spots rusting!! Anyway this is the report they are sending Toyota.

    Dear ,

Thank you providing us with an update to your concern.

Our records indicate that the Customer Relations Manager at McGeorge Toyota performed the inspection of your Tacoma at no cost to you and advised that any repairs necessary would be the responsibility of the owner.

Please be aware the information you have provided is used in combination with warranty claims and other customer contacts to track trends with our vehicles. If in the future a Special Service Campaign (SSC)/recall or warranty enhancement is issued that would cover your specific issue, and you have already made repairs to the vehicle, Toyota would review your repairs for reimbursement at that time.

Your email has been documented at our National Headquarters under file #1310310403. If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

    Sincerely,

    Megan B.

    Dear Mr. -----,

    You are very welcome.

With regard to your inquiry, as many of our customers are aware, the name Toyota stands for quality. There is no life expectancy for parts on our vehicles; therefore, warranties are put in place when issues arise. At the point the warranty expires, the responsibility shifts from the manufacturer to the owner.

Your email has been documented at our National Headquarters under file #1310310403.

If we can be of further assistance, please feel free to contact us.

You need to add a section to your poll: no rust at all. Maybe we can find a trend, example: location, year of trucks, modifications, and so on. This might help us figure out what is causing it or is Toyota having an issue again.

The latest from toyota. They want me to buy a new one

    Dear Mr.,

Thank you for contacting Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.,

I apologize for your concern regarding the frame of your 2006 Toyota Tacoma V6.

I have included rust prevention information from the Owner's Manual:

    Per the Owner's Manual:

    SECTION 5

    CORROSION PREVENTION AND
    APPEARANCE CARE

    Protecting your Toyota from
    corrosion

Toyota, through its diligent research, design
and use of the most advanced
    technology available, helps prevent corrosion
and provides you with the finest quality
vehicle construction. Now, it is up to
you. Proper care of your Toyota can help
    ensure long-term corrosion prevention.
    to your vehicle are:

    - The accumulation of road salt, dirt and
    moisture in hard-to-reach areas under
    the vehicle.

    - Chipping of paint, or undercoating
caused by minor accidents or by
    stones and gravel.

Care is especially important if you live
in particular areas or operate your vehicle
    under certain environmental conditions:

    - Road salt or dust control chemicals will
accelerate corrosion, as will the presence
of salt in the air near the sea-
coast or in areas of industrial pollution.

    - High humidity accelerates corrosion especially
    when temperatures range just
    above the freezing point.

    - Wetness or dampness to certain parts
of your vehicle for an extended period
of time, may cause corrosion even
though other parts of the vehicle may
    be dry.

    - High ambient temperatures can cause
corrosion to those components of the
vehicle which do not dry quickly due to
    lack of proper ventilation.

The above signifies the necessity to keep
your vehicle, particularly the underside, as
clean as possible and to repair any damage
to paint or protective coatings as
    soon as possible.

To help prevent corrosion on your
    Toyota, follow these guidelines:

Wash your vehicle frequently. It is, of
course, necessary to keep your vehicle
clean by regular washing, but to prevent
corrosion, the following points should be
    observed:

    - If you drive on salted roads in the
winter or if you live near the ocean,
you should hose off the undercarriage
at least once a month to minimize corrosion.

    - High pressure water or steam is effective
    for cleaning the vehicle’s underside
    and wheel housings. Pay particular
attention to these areas as it is difficult
to see all the mud and dirt. It will do
more harm than good to simply wet the
mud and debris without removing. The
lower edge of doors, rocker panels and
frame members have drain holes which
should not be allowed to clog with dirt
as trapped water in these areas can
    cause corrosion.

    - Wash the underside of the vehicle thoroughly
    when winter is over.

The warranty for your vehicle's frame is three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first, from the April 10, 2006 date of first use for your vehicle.

Your Toyota is currently outside these warranty parameters. We have reviewed your circumstances, taking into account such factors as vehicle age and miles, especially as compared with the manufacturer’s original warranty, the type of repair, and prior maintenance and repair history. While we regret that you incurred this expense, Toyota declines your request for reimbursement.

I apologize for the disappointment you experienced with your vehicle, and your feedback about your experience is greatly appreciated.

While repairs outside of warranty are the responsibility of the customer, Toyota regrets your dissatisfaction, because you've been loyal to Toyota by your purchase of your Toyota and by patronizing your Toyota dealership.

We work really hard to put out the best cars and trucks we know how, and we strive to constantly improve every aspect of their quality. A huge part of this effort is based on the honest, frank opinions of our customers, because the last thing we want to do is to make products that drive people away from Toyota. So please be assured that what you've told us is taken very seriously by Toyota management and by every Toyota associate, because it is just this sort of feedback that inspires our daily effort to make our vehicles better and better.

To confirm this, Toyota would be happy to offer you, as a gesture of our appreciation of your Toyota ownership history and your patronage of your Toyota dealership:

This is to confirm that we would be happy to offer a one-time reimbursement of $750 on the purchase or lease of a new Toyota (Scion not included because of Scion's Pure Pricing policy) from a U.S. Toyota dealership, from today until up to a year from today.

    This offer is non-transferable.

This offer is separate from your negotiations with the Toyota dealership at the time of purchase.

Also, this offer does not exclude other incentives that may apply to your purchase at the time of sale; this offer is on top of and in addition to any other incentives that are applied to your purchase at the time of sale.

To obtain the reimbursement, complete your purchase or lease deal at the Toyota dealership of your choice, and send us

    1) a photocopy of your signed contract
    2) proof of payment (a copy of the loan or finance agreement, a cash receipt, credit card slip or credit card statement, or photocopy of the cancelled check)
    3) and a photocopy of your state registration to:

    Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc.
    19001 S. Western Avenue
    Torrance, CA 90509-2991
    Attention: WC11, file #1310310403

Or, please feel welcome to attach the materials to your email reply.

We will contact you to acknowledge receipt of the documentation, and mail you the check in thanks to you for being a member of the Toyota Family.

I apologize that due to current claim volumes, the estimated reimbursement time is approximately ten weeks from the time we receive your documentation.

It is through correspondence such as yours that we are able to continue to improve our products and services, and we appreciate the time you have taken to bring this matter to our attention.

Outstanding campaigns and recalls are available by Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on our website, even when a campaign may not be finalized or ready to be mailed out:
