I love my '05 Tacoma DC, but I hate the issues I have been having with it! I took it in to the stealership on Monday because it idled rough on startup and the check engine light came on. They told me that I needed my spark plugs replaced (56k miles on the truck) and my fuel injectors flushed. Of course it wasn't anything that my extended warranty covers! I kicked myself for not doing the plugs myself but they had already pulled three of them out and I knew they would charge me for "finding the issue" so I just went ahead and got it done... $250 for plugs and injection service. I even told the advisor that I didn't think that was the issue.

Tuesday, went to start the truck up in the morning.... idled very rough and miss fired... check engine light came back on. Ran the codes... multiple random missfire is the code. Went back to the stealership and gave them an earful. They brought out a bottle with some of my fuel and said it was "bad gas"... I told them BS because I had just refilled the tank from a different gas station and it was very low (fuel light was on for about 40 miles) and there was no way that was it.

So, I am cruising around in my nice little Corolla loan car while they find out what is going on with my truck. Anyone had a similar issue? This is my first Toyota and I am not impressed with the quality or service from the dealerships. I have two dealerships within 10 miles of my house and they don't seem interested in helping me even since I "didn't buy the truck from them". Had to have my windshield seal replaced twice. All of my mudflaps. Drivers side door lock switch (that took 5 days!). And had to make multiple trips to the dealership to get each of these replaced even with an appointment.

Never had any issues like these with my Fords or Nissans :(

Maybe your parking brake is on or rear brakes seized up. Or a fuel leak.

Sorry to hear of your misfortunes. I have an o5 with 102,000 miles. Truck still runs great. I changed my plugs at 85,000 miles. You may just have one of those flukey things that would happen with any vehicle. Fill us in on what they find. Maybe it is something that is under warranty.

could be water in the gas, and you sucked it up when you ran the tank dry.

UPDATE: I finally talked to the service advisor today... she informed me that I have a BLOWN HEAD GASKET! WTF?!? She couldn't really give an answer as to what caused it but she did say that they sent off the heads to get them checked out and that they are going to check out everything to make sure there is no other damage.

Any of you had this happen on your Taco? I am worried now because other stuff may have gotten messed up and I would also like to know what happened. I swear I got a lemon!

There shouldnt be any other damage. Bad head gaskets happen.

Do you have a lemon law in Texas? It sounds like the dealer is taking care of you & going to check out the truck.

WOW, that's pretty bad for a Toyota with 56K miles. That would be covered under the powertrain warranty, right? I'd also tell them I want my $250 back since it solved absolutely nothing.

We do have a lemon law in Texas but the problem is that I bought the car as a Toyota Certifed Used Vehicle so the whole lemon law thing goes right out the window (only applies to new purchases).

Thats a good point about asking for my money back. My bet is that I won't get any back since it is "regular maintanance" and it technically needed at least the spark plugs.

I can tell you this much though... I am sick of driving this Corolla loan car! It was fun driving this thing like a go kart for the first couple of days but now it sucks... the new car smell is the only good thing about it.

And yes, it is completely covered under the Toyota warranty.
