Possibly, a problem with the shift lever itself or the little white bushing at the bottom of the lever.

The lever has a rubber vibration damper built into it. The portion the knob screws into is a hollow part filled with rubber. The portion on the bottom where the white bushing is is a bar stuck into the rubber. Is there a bunch of slop when you move the knob? If yes then the rubber has deteriorated. Mine had about 1/2” of slop at 80k miles or so when I swapped it with a hurst core short shifter.
