This is a link to those out there who want to know what exactly it takes to complete the entire drive cycle for most states required inspections.

Those of you who live in states where no inspection is done, I envy you. This is out of Toyotas service manual, and in detail describes everything you need to do step by step to ready your vehicle if your due for an inspection and you had:

    A CEL/MIL(Check Engine Light/Maintenance Indicator Lamp)

For some reason you had your battery unplugged recently when you were due for an inspection.

I hope this answers those questions out there for those who do not understand or know why you get told "just go drive for a while and come back and check".

P.S. Note to mods, if this can be stickied, or added to a thread already stickied where it is relevant please do.

Failed my test today. Did some electrical related work early in the morning had to disconnect the battery. Brought it in for my inspection a couple of hours later and failed.

Drove 50 miles around town afterwards. Lots of red lights, some highway driving, some full throttle and such. Hopefully I pass Monday.

Easy thing to do is go by a parts store and have them check the monitors for you before you go to the inspection station.
