05+ Tacoma Tail gate reinforcement group buy

Interesting, it's fitting tighter on my driver's side as well. I stripped the plastic pieces trying to make sure the panel was sitting flush against the metal of the gate, was hard to tell after putting the OEM plastic on.

Did you remove the painted screws? I left mine in, removing screws never seems like a good idea...lol. Yes, the holes weren't perfectly lined up, but the screws went in without much of a hassle. No way they are causing the gate to be tighter either. I'll have to take a look at it again tomorrow. Maybe I can trim a little bit of the edge off the OEM plastic piece.

 

I took the painted screws off but after I installed the panel I could see that you can leave them on without any issues. When I adjusted my driver side striker the left side sat flush with the rest of the truck body. Before that, the tailgate on the left side(driver side) stuck out a little. You can drill a hole in the plastic cover and that will fix the issue also. I didn't want to drill any holes in my plastic cover so I just trimmed the rubber stopper and adjusted my tailgate striker.

 

So, Relentless has gone all quiet on my bent tailgate reinforcement. Anybody heard from him?

I hope so. I've hammered and painted, but it's still not what I ordered. I'll probably install tomorrow because I want it on there, but it's a little frustrating. I'd probably do Al if I had it to do over. At least a coating break wouldn't equal rust. How did you trim the bushings? I've found a razor blade doesn't always cut straight through a bushing such as the tailgate bumpers.

 

I saw that he last posted on 12-31-14 so he's on TW. Not one word from his PM, email, or phone call?

I used a razor blade and just make small circling cuts into it. So steady pace. Probably could use a large scissor and do the same.

Yes, been very busy with the holidays between seeing some family and working 12 hours every day in between.

Shipped 46 small orders, 3 bumpers, 3 DIYs, and 2 sets of sliders this week alone so we've been working hard in the shop.

A manly tailgate

 

Finally got around to installing the reinforcement I ordered (aluminum/powder coated). No problems. Fit like a glove. Put two strips of weather-stripping, one on top of the tailgate and another on the inside top edge of the gate. Reinstalled the OEM cover over the new one. Enlarged the holes that run along the top edge of the OEM cover so the torx heads fit flush. Used a dremmel tool to cut down the bump stops on either side of the bed and the gate closes nice and snug. Great product. Thanks Guy!!!!!
