Especially if you get diamond plate; it will match your cover.

So --- I'm thinking about joining in on this. Question : Any good reason to get the aluminum over the steel? I would assume the steel would hold up better. Pardon my noobish-ness here ... just want to make sure I am not missing something.

Also --- how well does the powder coat hold up? Would I be better off just getting bare and spraying it with Rustoleum bed liner?

I went with aluminum so it wouldn't rust like steel would. Even with powdercoat it may get chipped when loading stuff depending on how you use your truck.

The aluminum is softer, but definitely holds up better than the plastic and it wont rust, so touch ups don't have to happen as often

I just used one and I stuck it to the tailgate protector and not to the paint. Cap is too close in the middle for there to be a piece of foam.

So I took Swordknives photo to help ask my question. I see on relentless' website that you need to "Required tools are a torx bit for the screws, and a rubber mallet or block of wood to curve cover to tail gate shape if desired."

So how does one bend this aluminum piece? I have to start make a jig piece of wood to put in the channel of the tailgate cover and try to shape it so the gap follow the curve of the tailgate? Has anyone tried this...doesn't seem very easy. I think if I tried this...the bend lines will not be uniform at all after trying to shape the curve with a mallet.

Too bad RelentlessTaco couldn't make his jig to incorporate this bend into his jig when he uses the CNC brake to form the tailgate. Is it possible RelentlessTaco to do this? I'm just curious.

That's not something we will be doing. It's only noted because some people don't understand the tailgate curves so the reinforcement has a bit of gap at the edge. Not something I see worth messing with. It's not bad. Some customers just expect a perfect fit like a molded plastic cap. This just might not be for those who are that anal about a slight gap.

I am anal...but I see the practical benefit of your product...was just wondering if it was possible since your note suggested you can do it...thanks for letting me know it's not available.I can live with it. Out of curiousity...would it be difficult to have a shorter lip to it so it doesn't accentuate the gap, so say if the lip is 2 inches...to make the lip 1 in or 1 1/2 in instead.

Or have a minimal lip altogether so the factory plastic cap can be installed over it. I just like factory look.

Really cool that you made this product and looking forward to it.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
I am pretty picky as well but to be honest it looks much worse in the pictures than it does on the truck. Most of the time when you are looking at your truck the tailgate will be up and it's hardly noticeable at all. From someone that has had this on their truck for some time now I can tell you the benefits far outweigh that little cosmetic flaw. If you are putting things in your bed of your truck you do not need to worry about bending your tailgate. It's a great piece of mind.

    X2.

Also, I have one of those spider web tie-down systems and the little lip comes in handy when you need a place to hook an anchor. It's a good investment.
