I have a 05 6 speed manual 4 WD TRD Off Road with 226,000 miles. I bought it new and have done regular oil changes, changed the transmission fluid once and spark plugs once. Since it is long in the tooth I want to do a major maintenance overhaul this fall before the snow flies.

I have read the owners manual front to back, but would like to tap into the collective wisdom of TW members on what I should include on my to do list to keep this truck running for another 200k miles. Please post your recommended maintenance list for a well used Tacoma with 226k miles.

uve only changed ur spark plugs once? i thought they were only good for like 30k or so? i would say that ur shocks are most likely shot if u havent replaced them, u should change ur diff fluid if u can get the fill plug out. other than that id say ur prolly alright (not sure but i think they use lifetime coolant if u havent had to add water too it it should be good, i may have dreamed that i read that tho) it is a tacoma man so u should get atleast that many more miles out of it if it doesnt rust into being in NY.

I would say depends on what your plans are, if you want to trade it in/sell it at one point next year and just want to make it over winter it's different.

We had manual Toyota cars in the family that ran 330k without ever changing the transmission fluid, again those were manual.
I would start checking before replacing, if the truck bounces, maybe new shocks if you want to keep it longer, but check what others said before.

I would check and maybe replace, battery, spark plugs, oil, tires, brakes, frame, cluth...the rest might be OK and you can still drive it with blown shocks, it's just not as safe :)

Nevermind, just read I want to put another 200k on it...DO EVERYTHING!

If I had a vehicle with 225k on it I wouldn't replace anything that wasn't broken or extremely worn.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

if u dont fix it ull have to buy another one. might as well do it all at once and save some time and hassle.

Thank you all for the input. I'll go full bore on fluid and mechanical replacements right now. I'm will eventually look for a new Taco once the Gen 3 is introduced if and when that ever happens.

bilstein set at 1.75, Racho 5000 rear with 4 leaf kit, floor mats, high lift jack, pull hook in hitch, bed rail corner braces, severe duty brake pads and devil horns on the grill....
I am doing a comprehensive 60k maintenance on my '11 AC...so fart this summer

Wagner Severe Duty Front Brake Pads
    Bilstein 5100 front shocks
    Rancho 5000 series rear shocks
    Cabin and Air Filter
Changed all the diff, trans and transfer case fluid
    Greased driveshaft

and when the new case of Anti-seize comes in, spark plugs...the plugs are already in stock.

So on YOUR truck, change the fluids, grease the driveshaft, inspect the belt, and most like new brake pads/shoes. And see what else it needs.
