To bypass and rule out the immobilizer, you can pull the start relay and jumper across the 3-5 contact to try and "bump" the starter motor with the ignition switch in the start position. If it doesn't spin or click, you have a starter/wiring issue to the starter. If starter makes no noise during the bump; either your start relay is bad which you can bench test at that point or you have a wiring issue going from the ignition switch to the starter. Dumb question, but did you verify the 7.5A start relay is good with a multimeter?

Yes I have pulled apart the starter and checked all this. Even my dad who is a mechanical/chemical engineer and my buddy who is a Toyota service manager and master mechanic is baffled. He is looking into what's going on and he believes it might actually be in the wire harness as well.

no offense to your pops because I am an engineer, they are typically not good at diagnosing field issues, and are usually better off in the lab designing something new

Maybe not, but in the twenty years I have been building vehicles and motorcycles with him we have never been this perplexed about something. He's pretty good at electrical diagnosis as well. Even my cousin who has his master's in electrical engineering and has built vehicles with us is stumped.

I mean when two engineers and a Toyota mechanic can't figure it out I throw my hands up to the car gods in mercy

I'd try this. Run a jumper wire from the y-g wire on the starter to up close to the battery. There's probably a connector you could disconnect, connect the jumper wire to the starter instead of the wire going up to the relay. Of course take all precautions, not in gear, jumper wire isn't near moving or hot parts. Turn the key to on. Now just touch the wire to the positive post, it should begin to crank, be ready to disconnect quickly once it starts if it starts. If it does start, you know the starter is in fact good but the power isn't getting to the starter when the key is in the start position. Sometimes there's a fusible link on the y-g wire right next to the starter. Maybe its bad. You could also test the y-g wire going to the relay, it should get power when the key is in the start position.

If anyone has issue with this test. I won't be offended and prefer you say don't do that.

That’s essentially the same test I tell him earlier. Bypass the relay and relay coil and send 12v fused directly from the ignition switch to the starter solenoid. Back in the day, you could just do this by unplugging the small signal wire and sticking a screwdriver across the two posts.

    For the 3rd time..

in the crank position, is there power on the Y/G trigger wire at the starter?

Looking at the starter circuit then looking at the OP's postings and I am too perplexed.

I am truly puzzled that the combined efforts of a mechanical/chemical engineer, a Toyota service manager and master mechanic and a master in electrical engineering cannot figure out a basic starter circuit.

Not trying to be rude, but it isn't rocket science. Look at the circuit drawings, they are at the depth of a Basic Electrical Class.

You say you have checked these things below 1.) 2.) and 3.).

What were your findings of the voltage readings? Give us something here.

Three things are required to get the starter to turn:

1.) A good ground return connection. Starter is grounded to the block via mounting.
2.) A solid 12 vdc at the battery terminal at the starter connection Black Wire w/Red Stripe.
    3. A solid 12 vdc at the Yellow Wire w/Green Stripe when the key is turned to the start position.

If all three of those things were good then the starter motor should have turned. If it did not then the starter motor/solenoid is the problem.

I wish you luck in finding the answer.

Please update this thread when you find the elusive answer.

Maybe I am missing these points. Does the starter spin when keyed? Did that get answered already?

Pretty certain that I never saw if there was a mention that the motor spun (cranked) or not. Does it spin?

When the key is on, and the dash illuminates, then you turn the key to try to start the engine. Do the dash lights dim?

Has the started been pulled and bench tested?

Here is an old video of "bypassing" the circuit to bump the starter.

If you follow along the thread here you should be able to figure out the issue. See post # 30 and the Schematic in post # 21.

Chances are he is long gone as he hasn't been seen since:
