My base model doesn't support ABS bleed. Tried the $200 Autel Maxicheck Pro, the $12,000 Snap-On Zeus and even Techstream itself. The only thing they'll let you do is activate each solenoid individually. Or the motor individually. Not both.

So I tried the dirt road method again but this time I started with the front right (shortest distance to the module). I know this will make the rears even harder to bleed later but I knew by the way it stopped (or didn't stop) that most of my air was in the front anyway.

And I got like 80% of my pedal back! Thank you bro.

Time to report the dealership to the BAR.

Edit: One qualm I have about the dirt method is that if there's enough air in the rear lines then they're never going to lock up on the dirt and therefore never activate the ABS. I tried doing it in reverse but going backwards doesn't activate the ABS. Most of the stopping is done in the front anyway so it's not that big a deal, I just wanted to point this out.

Edit2: It could be a big deal as any air in the system will result in a soft pedal. I'm going to try locking them manually with the e-brake while hitting the regular brake while I'm skidding and the VSS's in them should tell the module to activate the ABS for the rear. I will report back.

I once read on the "internet" that the old school pre-ABS way to bleed by starting with the farthest wheel RR, LR RF,LF is not valid with ABS and doing the opposite, as you did was the ABS way. Perhaps now I'm just passing on bad info. :spy:

That's on Fords and whatnot that have the module mounted in the middle of the vehicle. Or so I've read.

The reason you do the rears first is because the plunger in the master pushes fluid to the fronts first, then the rears. So if you get the air out of the fronts first, the pedal will be harder to compress while bleeding the rears (you can counter this by turning on the car and having the booster help you).

I don't know why having the module mounted elsewhere would make a difference aside from increasing the length of the lines to the front. But this doesn't change how the master cylinder works, so I believe it's bad info.

Last update and this thread can finally die: Got the rears to lock up (and activate the ABS module) in the dirt by slightly pressing on the brake pedal and then hitting the e-brake. Bled them and my pedal is 100%.

Tip for those bleeding solo: I bought a 1-way check valve off ebay so I wouldn't have to keep running back and forth. On the last pump, though, I put the pedal-wedge on and then closed the valve, just to be safe. (Also, an old gopro and the Quik monitoring app lets you watch the bubbles!)
