Hi guys, I have an '06, auto, and I haven't driven it for a couple of months because it is stuck in park. I haven't had a chance to try to fix that problem and now the truck will not start, no click, nothing. I did remove the shifter cable from the transmission, I don't think that would cause my problem, would it? If so, I did push in the button on the shifting column while trying to start, still nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It was in park when I removed the shift cable from the transmission.

Your battery is probably dead That is why it wont shift out of park There is a manual release that you can push to release it I believe its under a tab next to shifter Or just install a charged battery. If this corrects it then next step is find cause of dead battery.

I charged up the battery and tested it, battery good and no start. Just to make sure it wasn't the battery, I pulled the battery out of my FJ40 and put it in and tried, nothing. I tool the cable that attaches to the starter off and cleaned it up, still nothing.

Does it turn over, but just not firing?
Does it click and not turn over.
    Do the lights come on?

If it doesn't do anything, but the battery is charged - It could be the park / neutral safety switch. Try putting the shift lever in neutral and starting it that way. As per your original post you will have to press the Park Override button under the cover at the forward end of the shift lever to get it out of the park position.

How to adjust the Park Neutral safety switch:

Neutral Safety Switch, it let the ECU know you're not in gear while you're trying to start the vehicle.

Are there any other things that aren't working right when you turn the key on?

Everything else works, there is enough juice to put windows up and down, battery is at 100% and tests good with a tester, again, I tried a different battery just to make sure that wasn't the issue. I have the transmission cable disconnected at the transmission, I tried starting it in neutral (the shifter in neutral, as the transmission is frozen in park) with the override button pushed in, nothing.

I do not get a click, no crank, nothing when I try to turn it over.

Electrical problems are hard to diagnose long distance. A couple of suggestions 1st down at the starter you stated you cleaned and tightened the battery cable at the starter check the small wire on the solenoid clean and tight. then use a screw driver or short jumper and cross the battery cable to the post that the small wire connects to this will engage the starter if there is power to it. If the starter works next step check the large fuses in the power dist. box under the hood also check the other bundle of smaller wires that connect to the starter with the batt cable. 2nd check batt ground cable for clean tight connection at both ends. I recommend that you reconnect the trans. shift cable and use the park release button to shift. If the starter does not work when you jump it then the starter, solenoid is bad or there is no power getting from battery to the starter possible bad cable or ground. hope this will get you started [pun intended] on your search for a fix.

You will need to actually put the transmission in neutral, that is where the safety switch is. Why is the transmission frozen in park?

Reconnect the linkage to the transmission.
Use the push button to release the shifter and place it in neutral.
Then try and start the truck while wiggling the shifter in neutral.

What good does it do to start the truck if it is stuck in park?

IMO you need to go back to the original problem. Get the issue with the shifter /cable fixed and then check the adjustment including switch adjustment for both park and neutral positions.
