    Hey All,
read many threads and have questions still about what Toyota should be able to replace for me w/out the labor charge. I've read about what others recommended replacing, but I have not read anywhere what others have found to actually be in disrepair once it all comes apart. The whole thing is a can of worms!

I asked if Toyota was replacing leaf springs and was told there is currently not a remedy for this. Except if mine were failing then they would replace them (they are not). I thought I had read here where folks have had the 3 leaf replaced with 4s. Is this different since it is not a warranty repair?

I knew I needed a steering column. New Country Toyota of Clifton Park wants $312 for this.
My Q- Is this repair related to the spiral cable replacement? Is there any labor that does not overlap the frame or spiral cable recall?

They told me I have a really bad leak in a rear axel seal and I need new breaks. They quoted $50 for the axel parts $338 for labor and $270 for breaks. Again any overlap in labor I shouldn't have to pay for?

My exhaust recently got loud. They said I have a hole (not specific) and quoted me $490 for
a whole exhaust system (no labor). Warrantied for life they said!

I thought I'd have my sparkplugs replaced and get a tune up but they quoted me $210 (I'll pass).

They also quoted $120 to change the front diff and transfer case fluid (I'll pass).

I thought I might need new Billstein 5100 shocks, but they said they are ok. As far as I know they are original. I've driven on them 45K. What mileage is typical for them?

Said my lug nuts are swollen by 1mm and quoted me $100 to replace all of them (seems like an ok price).

I'll post a separate query about my reaf diff lock issues.

Lastly, you should get a laugh out of this. I asked if they could install D rings at the cab end of the bed when they put it all back together and they quoted me $220!

I'm in NY, and I rely on my truck to get me 2 miles uphill to my cabin on a road that has
washed out and work in the woods. Otherwise it is my daily driver and I'd like to know what
I SHOULD get serviced at the dealer while it is in pieces, and what I can wait to do after Toyota does their thing. I am moving forward with the steering column, seems like the exhaust is not too bad a price and the lug nuts are decently priced. I'm having trouble
picturing rear breaks/ rotors and 1 axel seal repaired for $660.

Your knowledge and feedback greatly appreciated,
    Tom

Update- the dealer worked with me to keep the cost at $1500 for the steering column, exhaust system, rear axel/ breaks, lug nuts and fixing the rear differential lock switch. All in all so far so good.

I forgot to mention that they got me a F150 from Enterprise, however I'm paying the additional insurance in case the loaner gets dinged. I looked at this brand new truck and asked how am I'm supposed to use the bed for work if it can't get scratched? So I took the coverage with the thought that it's better to drive away with it and cancel later. Anyway for $14/ day I have no worries about what shape the truck is in when I return it. As it was explained to me, Toyota will only pay $35/ day and they won't be liable for something I do since they are not driving the truck.
