I have a 2006 Pre-runner (automatic trans) When I've been driving lately it's been stuck in 4th and won't go into drive no matter what I've tried. Usually when this has happened I put some transmission fluid in and I'm golden but not this time. Suggestions????

I’d first want to be sure the truck is actually in “5th/D”.
Does the dash indicate it’s in “D” or 5th?

How have you been adding fluid?
And are you sure the level is correct?
These truck can be quite aggravating to fill correctly.

Are you saying it not shifting into 5th? All “D” means is the the tranny is in the drive and has the option to shift into 5th which is actually overdrive in the 5 speed. A quick check is shift the lever while driving into the 4 position the back into D and see if it will shift into 5th gear. Also if you’re in 5th at 70mph you should be running 2100rpm approximately.

It acts like it is low on fluid. The fluid has to be going somewhere. Get down there and take a peak
