I believe my '06 six speed is burning oil only in reverse. If I'm reversing gently it seems fine but if I give it a little gas I get a puff of blue(?)/white smoke (seems white but doesn't smell like burnt clutch. I've burnt the hell out of some clutches back in the day). I have not been able to "recreate" this in forward gears. I have approximately 137,xxx miles on it give or take about 1,000. I'll double check for a more exact number after work.

Ummm...... only the transmission reverses rotation of the drive shaft.

The engine continues to rotate in it's normal direction.

Is the exhaust emitting the blue/white smoke??

It's definitely a white-ish color, I'll double check this evening when I get off work to see if there's a blue tinge to it.

Are you sure you just aren't driving away from the puff when going forward vs backing into it so you don't see it?

Your description suggests you are seeing engine smoke when you back up. Gear oil in the manual transmission has no way into the engine.

Yeah I'm sure I'm not driving away from it when going forwards. For the amount of smoke that's coming out I'd definitely be able to see it in my mirrors.
