I have heard 05 and newer 4.0 V-6 Tacos have chains? If so, when do you guys recommend a replacement?

If it breaks, won't I screw up tons of stuff? Like timing and everything else?

It won't break unless you run engine with no oil, but even then more likely will just stretch.
So chain replacement is pretty much never. Chain guides are maybe a different story but unless you using junk oil and constantly rev up engine you should not hear them before 200k miles.
In essence .... find something else to worry about because this is pretty much maintenance free item. :D

The old Toyota vehicles that had a band needed to be replaced every 80K or so. I wouldn't worry about the chain.
BTW, if the chain did break, you would have a lot more than the timing to worry about. Pistons hitting valves that are in the wrong place because the cam isn't moving would make for a new engine, or at least a rebuilt one.

Okay great, so what would you say to the advice of don't fix the chain until it breaks? And how many miles should I think about changing it out?

Not true, the Toyota 1gr-fe engine is of a non-interference design...
