Hi, everyone in the Tacoma world site. 1st time posting and looking for a little help with my 06 Taco with 96000. miles. I have read all the threads on this community, and I have followed some of the advice posted and nothing has worked.

1st. My Taco was operating fine, I parked it in my driveway and when I went to start it again it did not turn over. I checked the battery, and the battery was working fine. I Jump starter it and it took a few minutes before it turned on. I let it run for 20 minutes or so and rechecked the battery, it showed 14.2. So, the battery is good. I turned off the truck and I when started, it did not start. I took the battery out and took it to AutoZone where I purchased it from to have checked. The person in AutoZone exchanged it for a new one under warranty.

I when and install the new Battery and the truck it on with no issue, however two days later the same thing happened the taco did not turn on.

So, after reading all the threads posted here and doing some of the things suggested, nothing has worked. OBD code reader shows code 705. However, that's the neutral safety sensor/switch.

I when to the dealer and purchased one. I installed it and it did not, it still did not turn on. Next, I installed a new starter motor following some of the suggestions on this site. Still no good, it did not turn on as well. This is where I’m now. New Battery, New Starter Motor and New Neutral Safety Sensor /Switch. The issue has not been corrected. Sorry for the long thread. I hope someone can help with the misery.

Does the Neutral Safety Switch indicate properly when you move it through the gear positions. It must be adjusted properly to work.

14.2 running after jump starting doesn’t indicate the battery is good.

Starter voltage drop test. With the engine off, connect your volt meter to the battery. If the meter has peak hold set it for peak low hold, dc volts. If it doesn’t have that feature, you just have to watch & try to see how low it goes. Start the engine, I like to see above 10, below that is getting iffy, less than 9.5 I’d replace the battery. Or brush the terminals and posts clean & try again.

    Welcome to TW!

Can you expand on "would not start"? Does it turn over or you turn the ignition and nothing? If it turns over, are you getting spark? A spark plug tester is a cheap tool and will help you diagnose. If no spark, do you have an "immobilizer" (my arch-nemesis). It be a flashing red truck above the clock and should stop blinking when you turn the ignition into the "on" position. My advice would be to confirm spark before you start replacing more parts. Good luck and keep us updated! Now that you've told us, you have lots of people personally invested in getting your truck to start! :)

I double checked everything once again and found that the small wire on the starter motor has no power go to it.
The larger black wire from the battery to the starter motor has power. I insert the key and turn it and nothing happens,
no sound or clicking noise is heard.

Have you tried messing with the transmission range lever while holding the key in the crank position?
If not try that first, otherwise follow the steps outlined in the thread I posted above.

When you mention the transmission range lever, is the shift handle you are talking about.

Thank you, I try that and nothing happens. I disconnected the small wire form the starter motor used a test light to see if there was power. I had a friend turn
the key to on and there was no power in the small wire of the starter motor. I also checked all the fuses and they were all good.

You need to go to the STA Relay then and see what is missing.

I checked the STA fuse with a multimeter on continuity and it appears to be ok. I switch the relay with the horn relay to test and nothing.

You need to check the relay pins with a test light.

Test light connected to battery negative it should light on Pins 1 & 5 with the key in the crank position.

Test light connected to battery positive it should light on Pins 2 & 3 at all times.

Hello everyone, Today I when underneath the truck and rechecked every connection. The large cable on the starter had power, however, the small wire to the solenoid. had no power. So, I used a remote start to jump the truck from the solenoid. The truck turned over with no problem. I cleaned the connector with a
very small screwdriver and reconnected it back to the solenoid. Turned the key and truck started it right up. Turn it on and off a few times to make sure it will power up again, it did.
I want to say THANK YOU to everyone that contributed to helping me get my Taco back on the road. Also, Dm93 thank you for the diagram, it helped a great deal.
