Yesterday after work I turned the key and nothing happened. Battery is good. Lights and everything worked. After a couple of tries and she fired up and I drove home.

This morning... Same thing except it never started. Checked fuses and swapped out relay under hood. Replaced starter ( in that order ).... Same thing.

Does anyone have a copr of the starting circuit diagram?

I hope it's not the remote starter unit malfunctioning.

    Your thoughts?

The tech from Crime Stopper got back to me. He said to disable the remote start system to test for a mechanical issue, you can unplug the 6-pin and 12-pin connectors from the Crimestopper remote start module.

    Still nothing.

    Dm93,
Thank you for the schematic and the link. This is what makes Tacomaworld Great.

With the aide from DM93's schematic I have determined that the Starter Relay is only receiving 6v from the AM1 circuit coming from the ignition switch. The starter turns when I jump 12v to Y/G wire under the Starter Relay. Something is robbing it of voltage.

    Possible culprits:
    Ign. Switch
    Park/Neutral Switch
    Corroded Plugs
Wire insulation worn off from rubbing

Got some tracing to do... Ugh!

On an 07 Tacoma I would look at the Park/Neutral Switch first. It is a known problem with corrosion.

Hmmmm... Now that I know how to jumper this thing I decided to turn it around in the driveway. The truck dies when the shifter passes by reverse.

Could it be the Park/Neutral Switch???

Your saying it dies as in the engine shuts off?
A bad transmission range switch shouldn't cause that.

That is correct. Engine running... Shift into or through reverse and the engine shuts off. If I go past reverse quickly it will stumble and refire.

Because the engine it still spinning it refires once it is past the trouble spot.

Something about passing near reverse is killing the ignition. But that doesn't explain (or does it?) why I am only getting 6v to energize the starter relay.

That's kind of suggesting a power feed issue, what if you turn say the wipers on will that stall it?

Ignition on, in reverse with engine stalled out does the horn work (not that that means anything). Does the light bulb work in the console? Has the center console ever been removed?

Turned on all accessories and it still runs.

Further examination proves that I can get it in reverse if it's done gingerly. The shut down occurs between reverse and neutral.

Mind you, I can only start it by jumping the solenoid. And yes, it will start in gear when jumped.

That's quite interesting, I'm not finding any connection between the 2 except maybe the ignition switch but you did say you have a remote start installed so there’s always the possibility of an issue there as the majority of remote start installs I see are adequate at best and flat out hackjobs at worst.

I think the next area I'd check is the ignition switch and remote start wiring.

Horn works. Console lights work. I have not remove console, but I did install a console locker.

It starts in gear and/or neutral? It’s not supposed to start in gear, is it?

It will if you bypass the starter relay which effectively bypasses the park/neutral switch.
