Do you have a manual or automatic FJ?

The manual is full time AWD and unlocking the front axles would be detrimental. The automatic has an automatic differential disconnect. Both render the hub lock obsolete.

What are you hoping to achieve?

Because the FJ manual is 100% 4x4 all the time, the front axles need to spin or the transfer case will be stressed to the rear bias.

It's not like the old trucks where the front diff and axles would wear rapidly and kill fuel consumption.

Besides, they don't exist. Only the 80's and some 90's trucks had conversion kits from full time or auto locking hubs to manual hubs.

The fuel mileage is horrible. I drive easy, I'm getting 13 mpg. My Ram Diesel, stepped up is getting 15 around town, 19 Highway.

2007 runs on premium fuel only too right??? Sell it and buy a different vehicle or buy a Civic to commute in. You aren’t going to make a 13 year old 4WD Vehicle get good gas mileage it’s a lost cause.

seriously you’re better off getting something else, although if you wanted to go the part-time 4x4 route you’d need about $500 in parts for the front diff and a j shift tcase from another fj or t4r.

theres a write up on here with the parts list, I’ll look through my saved real quick.

for the tcase you just need any manual shift tcase from a 4Runner or FJ, I picked mine up from a totaled 5th gen 4Runner with 15k on it for $375 on eBay. Just try to make sure it comes with the shifter.

edit 2: wait a minute disregard that, those are the parts you have currently on your clamshell, I actually do not know the part numbers for the add

I thought the FJ with a automatic had a manual shift t-case like an old school t-case but you're saying it has automatic differential disconnect, are you sure?

I'm not saying you're incorrect, in fact it's most likely I'm incorrect, I just want to know for sure is all.

Do a SAS and you can have all of the locking hubs you want.

FJ Auto has a J shift transfer case ya, but its a standard 2H 4H 4L. So it has an ADD due to no transfer case differential. 2WD means unlocked front axle.

Manual has J shift 4H 4HL and 4L, 4H is AWD like a subaru. 4HL is tacoma 4H. Front axle always engaged, hence why Tacoma guys like buying the front tube ADD delete from FJ.

4runner offroad and pro still have the J shift. both are tacoma style without the center diff. Only limited has center diff.

If you sell your manual trans, AWD transfer case, put me first in line. Heck...let's just do a gear box swap. My low mile all-auto setup for your all manual setup?!?

Manual trans, AWD DCLB is the truck Toyota should have built for me in the first place. Once the truck isn't my DD and has accumulated a few more miles, I'll be looking to do the swap.

Also, OP: clean your MAF sensor and throttle body, then reset the computer by pulling the negative battery terminal for 10 minutes or so. Check air filter, tire pressure, fluids and lube your driveshafts (you know...all the normal fuel economy wear items). After that, look in to HP Tuners and tuning the truck. After tuning, my fuel econ (and driving enjoyment) is noticeably better.
