Hi kryten, I was wondering how your frame is holding up after winter? I am gonna go with the rust bullet as a base (two coats), two coats of rustoleum protective enamel as a final black finish(to save money), and the Eastwood internal frame coat for the boxed sections. I have an 06 with a lot more rust than you started out with. I am probably gonna order 2 quarts of the rust bullet based on your review. I will probably also hit the transfer case, lower control arms, etc. as well. Do you think 2quarts is enough? Thanks for sharing your experience. I am not looking forward to the dirty work, but the rust is eating away at me and my truck, something must be done!

No rust on my frame after this winter, although my nice shiny frame is dull from the dust collecting on it from the Fluid Film. I have to wear shitty clothes when I roll around under the truck doing maintenance because you come away black from rubbing against it.

Has anyone else gotten a recall letter regarding frame rust on their 2nd gen? I did.

They want me to go into a dealership, have the frame inspected, then they'll fix if necessary. Not sure if this will be the same strategy as their previous frame recalls (where they paid something like 110% KBB Excellent-condition to owners to put toward other vehicles).

There are a few spots of rust where the truck was raised up when it went for service, need to touch up there. There are also a few places where some surface rust is forming.

I was not happy with my application of Rust Bullet so I would blame this on that. I was running out of time and paint, so my second coat was half assed and it started snowing later that night so not ideal condition for such a project. I also did not apply Rust Bullet Black Shell as it cures for 24 hours or so, but instead bought a few Rust Check Rust Paint black cans and called it a day.

I also did not spray fluid film yet either, again ran out of time, and with the amount of work I did last fall on this project, I'm lazy to crawl under the truck again.

The plan is to spent an hour or two to touch up everything that needs attention, and then probably get it Krown'ed at a shop and hope for the best.

Now I discovered I have throw out bearing squeaking symptoms (for a while actually) and had water pump, belt and axle seals replaced this winter, two wheel bearings last winter. All major expenses so I'm not thrilled with that for a pavement driven and maintained truck with 100k miles. /rant

Did the touch up's and put lot a lot thicker coat of Rust Bullet on affected areas this time and realized I probably have done a better job on the whole truck the first go around even though I thought otherwise.

This time I got some air bubbles that formed when I used a thicker coat which is what should be avoided. The few places where I needed to touch up were where the truck was lifted for servicing and where the paint got chipped.

I set an appointment for the truck to get Krown rust proofed. Decided I cannot be bothered to spend more time under the truck myself to spray Fluid Film.
