My 2007 Tacoma has started acting quite funny the last few days. It was driving fine without a problem in the world. Now I can have my foot steady on the gas as well as cruise control & at different times as well as speeds the accelerator cuts out. At first the rpms would drop down as well as speed like I had turned the vehicle off. Then after a few seconds of coasting it would come back & pick its speed back up. Today the vehicle actually lost power twice when this occurred out of the 4 times the gas pedal quit. The service engine light came on so I stopped in at a repair store so they could scan it to get the problematic codes. It came back with 1 code saying the abs solenoid was open & 2 codes for a "rich mixture." The worker didn't give me much help with explanations so I'm trying to get a few hints from so folks that may have experienced this or that know a lot about Tacomas since I haven't even had mine a year. Any advice would be more than greatly appreciated.

The TSB wont cause a code to be thrown.

K......just wondered if the abs/brakes was acting up and the tsb reflash would therfore cause the brakes to be able to cut signal to the gas pedal. I wasn't blaming the tsb itself tho, just throwing ideas out there.

Interesting idea.....and plausible. However, it wouldnt throw the rich condition code. If the plugs are old, and worn to the point of not being able to reliably fire, then that could cause the miss, and running rich code.

I checked out the plugs & they indeed were in bad shape. I just got finished replacing all of them & took it for a little test drive to see how it acted & so far that seemed to do the truck. Thank you very much for input on the problem. I really appreciate that. You saved me a good bit of time & I'm sure a big wad of cash. Thanks again.

Bumping this thread. I have a 2009 Tacoma DC Sport w/ 90k and recently had it in for some service at the dealership. I was having intermittent issues where the ABS and Traction Control lights would come on and the tech said there was a code for the Brake Pedal Sensor, so they replaced that. I also did the plugs, tranny fluid, and a couple of other "recommended" service options.

Picked up the truck on Thursday and over the weekend, 5-6 times, the accelerator would just cut out, similar to the issues of the OP. I would be cruising along at 50mph, typically uphill (mountains) and it would act like the car shut off- no lights, no loss of power steering or the like, but it would just drop acceleration. RPMs would drop- if I pulled my foot off the accelerator and re-engaged, it came back up every time. It has happened maybe 2 other times at lower speeds around the neighborhood. I have it scheduled to go back in next week, but thought I would pick the collective brains here first.
