My 07 Tacoma 4.0L V6 would try to start but nothing, would sometimes start with starting fluid but would instantly die, I changed the fuel pump and gas. Only code I got was for camshaft position ( which I fixed) Changed the fuel injectors and some corroded fuses. now it just cranks and doesn’t even try to start.

Does the key security light turn off when the key is inserted?

You need to check for spark still.

Does it crank really fast like there's no compression?

I'm asuming you mean you have the 4.0L V6?

If so make sure the security light next to the clock is not flashing with the key on.

What is the history? Did it just not start one day or did it die going down the road?

If it stays blinking there's a problem with the immobilizer, it should turn off when the key is inserted.

I would check the following in order.
As any vehicle need the following to start. (This is generalized)

    Fuel, Air, Spark

    • Ignition immobilizer = Confirmed Off
    • 12v battery = Confirmed Charged had has the rated CCA
Spark Plugs = Confirm has continuity
    • Airflow = Confirm no blockage from intake to MAF / Engine Filter
    • Starter = Confirm Starter works
    • Fuel = Confirm Fuel tank is full
    • Fuel Line = Confirm that there is fuel inside the fuel line
    • Fuel Pressure = Confirm that there is adequate fuel pressure for the direct injection.
    • Cam Sensor = Confirm Cam Sensor not Faulty

    • There is more but start with this.

If the security light is flashing with the key in the ignition, no need to check anything on that list except the immobilizer.

The immobilizer will allow the truck to crank, but not start.

The easiest first step would be to try a different key.

I don’t know if this would make a difference or not but when I bought the truck, the guy lost the original key so I had to take it to Toyota and they made me a key. They just gave me a plain metal key and the truck ran for about three months before I went out there one day and it wouldn’t start at all.

    Weird. Makes no sense.
So your key looks nothing like one of these?
The key on the top is what yours is supposed to look like.
Unless you have an aftermarket alarm or remote start?

    Me either.
AFAIK, all the 4.0L trucks had the immobilizer.

There seems to be more to the story here.
Either the immobilizer was bypassed, there is a chip simulator, or key, hidden somewhere close to the ignition.

The truck isn’t going to start until the flashing key light turns off.

I wonder if there was another [original key with chip] hidden close to the ignition that moved out of position.
