I have a 07 tundra 5.7 with 170,000 miles. Recently I have been experiencing an issue where the truck pops out of reverse if you go over 5 mph. The shifter remains in the reverse position but it’s like the truck shifts to neutral. If you let off of the fuel it will go right back in reverse. Any ideas? Please help!

Scan for codes first and see what that suggests, it could be a problem like the oil pump in the transmission, a valve body issue, a clutch/band issue or even a weird electrical issue. Do you have any other symptoms in the forward direction?

A slushbox expert like @gearcruncher may be able to offer some insight

I will defiantly scan it soon. All forward gears are fine no slipping or lack of power. It’s just reverse and only over 5 mph that’s the part I can’t wrap my brain around. I wouldn’t think speed would have anything to do with it.

    Reverse uses higher pressures .
First thing I would do is check the fluid level .
If the transmission is low on fluid, the transmission pump has a rough time supplying fluid to keep those higher pressures up .
When you reverse , are you backing up an incline ?
It will fall into neutral if there is no fluid at the transmission filter sump
