07 X-Runner Clutch problem

    I removed the transmission and as I pulled it back from the engine the remains of the throwout bearing and the quilt tube which broke off at the base from the bellhousing fell out.

    As everyone here I'm sure knows that the
    2007 - 2013 X runner transmission does not have a bolt on throw out bearing guide Tube.

    So I ordered a bolt on one of the same size And had a Welded to the bellhousing. What I didn't realize at the time was that this particular bolt on guidetube had a one and a 1/2 inch base.

    I replaced the clutch, pressure plate And the clutch slave cylinder

    I just got the transmission back in everything's put back together except for the drive shaft.

    I started it up and and it will not go in the gear the clutch will not disengage And when I press the clutch pedal all the way down I hear and feel a grinding noise in the clutch pedal and that grinding is not the gears it's something in the clutch system. It also grinds as it starts Only while the clutch pedal is pressed, and it doesn't matter if it's a gear or not.

    I think I know what the problem is it's that 1 and a 1/2 inch base that's all that guidetube is holding the throw out bearing too high and as I bolted the transmission down it depressed the pressure plate release fingers. Basically the throwout bearing has enough pressure on it to keep the clutching gaged engaged and off the fly wheel. Basically I think that even when I release the clutch pedal all the way it does not pull the throw out bearing far enough to release the clutch.

    Is there any kind of adjustments that I can make to make it work or do I have to take the transmission back out and replace the guide tube With one that has a paper thin base on it which I have found online online that is the right size.

    Any help is much appreciated my truck has been up on Jack Stan since July and I'd really Like to get it fixed

    Probably gonna need to source a bell housing with the correct quill on it

    Do you really not think that there's a feasible way to fabricate a repair? A new bell housing is such a pain and a $1000

    OP, you stated that you welded another quill to the transmission.

    I am not familiar enough with possible aftermarket solutions for this but would be real concerned about damaging the front main seal of the transmission and creating a leaker.

    Why? Because that seal is smallish and the only way it can be replaced is by disassembling the entire transmission starting at the very rear. If you do that you might as well inspect and replace any suspect bearings, syncros and other parts. I can tell you from experience that parts for the transmission are expensive and its easy to rack up costs very quickly, particularly if you have to pay someone for labor.

    If you have a ton of miles and other issues it may make more sense to search for a replacement from a later model with lower miles.
